Does Suzanne ever come to any concerts and stick around for the meet and greets?
Lessee...
I saw (but did not talk to) Suzanne at the Virgin Megastore signing when Poodle Hat was released.
I met her in Al's dressing room at the Greek Theatre in 2003 (gee, I must have been there with Barney Slayer and didn't even know it). I was there with Vikki and a couple of other folks to present Al with samples of Weird Al Star Fund merch from Cafepress. In a demonstration of cluelessness, I entirely failed to realize that the bundle of blankets on the sofa was Nina. But then, that was the first time I got hugged by Al, so I daresay my brain wasn't exactly functioning at 100%.
I got a backstage pass (courtesy of another fan who shall remain nameless) to one of the OC Fair shows in 2004 and Suzanne was not only there, she went around asking for me by name so that she could say thanks in person for a book I sent for her birthday.
I saw her (and talked to her this time) at the Straight Outta Lynwood release.
Saw her standing in the wings at OC Fair last year. I circulated a card for her (just friendly greetings-- I don't know how many times during the process I had to say, "No, there's nothing wrong with Al's wife. She's perfectly fine!") among a bunch of Al's female fans and sent it backstage with some miniature rose plants. She put up a photo of the roses on her MySpace.
So that's my experience of Suzanne at Al appearances. She was mingling with the fans in line at the SOL release, taking photos, and from what she said, she enjoyed the mingle. I've never come across her at a concert outside California, but that probably has more to do with the fact that I've only done a total of two weeks' worth of tour chasing outside California myself, and for one of those weeks, Nina was an infant.
Suzanne is a lovely person.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.
