Too late, "American Idol" jumped the shark. For the past 5 seasons the winner was the predictable WGWG (white guy with guitar). Don't see that changing any time soon. I would rather see him as a judge on something like "America's Got Talent." (Not just because it records 8 miles from my house and I get free parking....) I doubt Al would do any "judge gig" though. He doesn't seem high on reality/talent shows.

I don't know why people think Al wouldn't want to do it. I mean, he very well might not want to, but he did participate in a roundtable column each week during the early years of Idol for USA Today. That said, that was in a very different venue than actually judging the performances, and it's possible that Al would wind up like Ellen DeGeneres a few years ago--walking on eggshells to be polite while simultaneously trying too hard to be funny all the time.

As far as the album schedule goes, if anything I think it would actually move things along further...Jennifer Lopez never missed an opportunity to use Idol to promote her latest piece of crap. At the very least I imagine Al would try to release a new parody of a current hit each year to maximize the potential audience.

I'm not saying it would be a match made in heaven, but at the very least, as somebody who used to watch it religiously but last season only watched it when I had nothing better to do, it would at least make Idol appointment television for me again.

I do not think it will do any of his benefits. He may be serious and thoughtful and all the good things.

Spoke too soon. A female who's black won last season.
