Al on the view
I liked the performance a lot. The dancers added a lot to the song, and Al and the band's costumes looked great. The interview itself was just OK. Al definitely didn't belong in a "Where Are They Now" segment, and I'm glad he pointed that out. It was kind of annoying that the women kept interrupting him. It seemed like he could barely get a sentence out. Having said that, it was nice to see Al do a talk show where he actually performed something from the album.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

I dont think the spoiler tags were needed, but yes Ruben was covered in bees. I only figured it out at the end when I saw the beehive behind someones head. The interview wasnt bad. The performance was terrible, simply because they cut video clips in. Id rather have just sen the band perform, since they are so awesome

That lady, (the large one who was eating the entire episode and kept interrupting Al) she mispronounced his name several times. She used "Yankovich" and "Weir Al".

Re: Al on the view
To be fair to the View, it's not exactly like their middle aged housewife target audience actively follows hip-hop and knows what a Chamillionaire is to know that Al has been a big deal again since 2006.
To be completely unfair to the View, even a chimp knows how to use Wikipedia.

Re: Al on the view
Perhaps they don't expect their middle-aged housewife target audience to go look up Weird Al on Wikipedia in advance of his appearance on the show, and perhaps they're right. They're probably more or less pretending to be as uninformed as the audience. BTW, I'm on West Coast time, so I haven't seen this, and I'm going to a picnic and will probably miss it. Any idea if the ep will be up on the View's site, and if so when?the Dingo wrote:To be completely unfair to the View, even a chimp knows how to use Wikipedia.

Re: Al on the view
I didn't really like the interview segment that much but Dave is right that it was the standard morning talk show interview, Dingo is right that most of the audience has no idea what Al has been up to, and Helen is right that they're playing dumb because that's how TV works. It's a shame they kept cutting into the video, but I guess they wanted to show off both. This was definitely not an appearance intended for the hardcore fans, but to generate interest among the demographic of The View. For that, it was a good appearance. For seeing what costume Ruben was wearing, it wasn't.

For me the best part, aside from Al telling the ladies just how full his life has been, was seeing how Al was lit at the beginning of the performance -- grand peacock silhouette.

Where are they now, hosted by an Oscar winner who now does adult diaper commercials.

Re: Al on the view
As was mentioned already, during Al's performance they cut in clips of the "Perform This Way" video. During the scene where Al/the model was wearing police crime scene tape, the crotch area was blurred out. I thought that was completely unnecessary, given that The View is not a family show. The image that was planted in my head while Whoopi Goldberg talked about her pubic hair (at the beginning of the show) was FAR more disturbing than anything in Al's video.
