How about Elvis Costello? "I'm So Sick of You" is a style parody of him, and Al and the band send up his 1977 SNL performance by going into "Radio Radio" when there are technical difficulties.

I disagree with this on the grounds that DDTS is more of a style parody of over-produced charity songs, not specifically Michael Jackson.

Yeah, but it mostly spoofed We Are the World musically. And wasn't WATW an MJ thing?

Well, he wrote it, but he didn't perform the whole things. Plus, DDTS is very similar to "Hands Across America", and "Heal the World." It's not 100% a spoof on any one charity single, just the whole charity single 'genre.' A quick scan of Wikipedia under Charity Record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charity_record) reveals tons of them.

To be specific, the chorus of DDTS sounds like "Hands Across America" and the verses sound like "We Are the World". It was smart to use the lesser known song for the verses, otherwise it would have sounded too much like WATW.

But isn't WATW what the verses are based off of? I'm confused now.

Yeah, the verses are DEFINITELY "We Are The World." Perfect spoof of the 'there comes a time...' melody. But the choruses are more "Hands Across America."

My bad, I meant to say the lesser known song was used for the choruses, which, again, was very smart to do.

Oh, I get it now. Thanks for clarifying.
