You could be right! I have never had a mustache and my voice has never been at all like Al's!
great observation!

I'm pretty sure it was in the mid-80s when he saw a vocal coach. He mentions how the early tours really got to his voice, so he saw a coach.

Ask Al, October 1998
Blair Freeman in Canton, IL asks: Have you ever taken voice lessons?

When I first started doing concert tours in the mid-80's, I would always lose my voice at some point while on the road, because I wasn't used to singing that much or that often. So at one point I took a couple vocal lessons from my friend Lisa Popeil (yes, Mr. Popeil's daughter), who taught me how to sing without completely destroying my vocal chords. Also as a precaution while on the road, I now try to avoid air conditioning, smoky rooms, and shouting when I'm not onstage.

Ya know what? That ticket's already been punched in this topic. Try a different theory. Even if it's completely made up! We know it could be the voice coach or the mustache. We know! Just say something else!

I think his hair is an alien breathing device. It's the reason he can sing so long apparently without breathing.

Well, why is it that in this video Al is recording Running With Scissors with facial hair! Myth debunked!

With proper training, nearly anyone can sing that whole line in one breath. There are breathing exercises to maximize air efficiency. Here's an example: Take a small piece of paper (about post-it size), and place it on a wall at mouth-height. From an inch away, see how long you can keep the paper on the wall by blowing on it with puckered lips. The diaphragm can be toned like any other muscle, and over time you'll be able to keep the paper up longer with controlled, concentrated air.

And exactly why is the hair myth dead? Al had his hair in that video while he was singing that line. The myth still stands! We will still insist that his hair is a breathing apparatus whether it is true or not. Whether it's ridiculous or not! Whether you can save a ton of money by switching to Geico or not! So there! :great: By the way, that is the greatest line in that song!
