I bet he retires "Eat It" and "Fat" now...
He didn't retire Smells Like Nirvana.
But I'm sure at some point he'll say something about what MJ meant to him and his career. Al knows how to give thanks where thanks are due.

I don't know. If he was in the middle of a tour, he might retire them, but they're both such staples of his live show. They don't really take that much of a jab at MJ, so I think he'll keep them.

Excellent point, Helen!
Retire "Fat"? Meh. Maybe.
Retire "Eat It"? No smurfing way.

And in fact, on the "Alapalooza" tour Al always preceded the performance with a quick dedication to Kurt into the microphone.

I've been hearing stories that Michael had an eating disorder -- perhaps anorexia.
That'll make Fat all the more poignant.

I don't think Michael Jackson's death will cause Al to retire "Eat It" or "Fat," just as it won't prevent people from listening to his music or playing it on the radio. Just because an artist dies doesn't mean their music has to fade into obscurity. It's usually just the opposite. Plus, Al could "Eat It" and "Fat" as a tribute to the influence Michael Jackson had on his career.

Just realized that August 7th will mark my 10 year anniversary of my first concert....

I anticipated the opposite...
Eat It could be taken out of the medley and placed right before Fat on the set list.

I see Eat It returning in its entirity as well. With the surge in MJ's sales, and with Al's versions hitting the charts as well, I see a lot of people who forgot about Al coming back for seconds (Sorry, had to keep it in the food chain.) And I dont see Al doing like a full on tribute, just saying exactly what he did for Kurt Cobain, "This song is dedicated to the memory of Michael Jackson." Or he may not say anything at all. By the time Al is on tour again, it will have been almost a year since MJ died. I'm sure there will be bigger rounds of applause after the songs than before, but he may keep it exactly the way it is currently.
Although on second thought, doing both songs would be weird. Doing Eat It, then running the video from Fat and singing that song would be strange. Look what happened after I took my own advice!

I highly doubt that when Al goes back on tour next summer, that he will really do anything special. I still see Fat being performed, I guess, but I would say Eat It might not even be in the concert.
Al stated in a MySpace blog at the end of the last tour, that the next time he goes out, the tour will be substantially different. I think we'll all be at least a bit surprised at what is left out, what is put in, and the style of the show in general.
Next summer will definitely be an interesting and busy time...
