This method of release will end up putting a strain on my marriage.

OK, that's wording it very strongly... but I'm in the camp where I don't love the idea, but I'd certainly want to listen to the stuff if he's putting it out there... and she wants no part of it. She wants to hear everything in album form for the first time. Since we typically do our first time Al listening together, this will cause one of us to make a tough decision... oh, who am I kidding, it'll cause me to make a tough decision.

As very few of the songs Al parodies are ever big hits in the UK the "freshness" factor really doesnt apply. As long as what Al puts out is of a high quality it should be able to stand on that alone really

I love the idea - although I hate that it will create tension in the Adrian/Anne household, lol.

I voted Hate It, for a few reasons:

1) The songs will be old news by the time the album comes out. I just won't be nearly as excited about the album as I should be because of this. Even if there are 5 or so songs I haven't heard yet, it just won't be the same experience as it normally is. Even with DDTS and W&N, the songs weren't released this far in advance, so they were still somewhat fresh by the time the album came out. By the time we get the new album, "Whatever You Like" will feel as stale as "Couch Potato" does now.

2) Marketing - No casual music buyer is going to buy Al's album. If they like the individual parodies, they'll buy them when they come out, but they won't buy the album. All of us will, sure. But that's not nearly enough record sales.

3) By rushing to parody what looks good at the time, Al may miss the "next big thing." Think what would have happened to his 7th album if Al had just jumped at the first good idea he had instead of waiting for something like Nirvana to come along. We would have missed out on the song that most of us rank as one of his very best parodies ever (According to the Elvis's Top 20 Songs Topic).

4) When we have just ONE song released at a time, we tend to get awfully critical of it. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it's better when you have a whole bunch of songs released at the same time, because if one or two aren't that great, the others compensate for them. When it's just one song at a time, if the song isn't that great, there's a certain sense of disappointment that doesn't exist when you have a whole album at a time.

I'm still on the Hate it side of this, primarily for the same reasons Jeremy said. Also, when we do get a new album, only a handful of the tracks will be new, and it probably won't feel as special.

I decided I don't know.

Maybe by three or so songs, I'll be able to judge if they are averagely good or bad.
