I have a karaoke type version of "Since You've Been Gone" with the backing vocals and instrumentation only, and I love it! *Thanks, CB* I have fun singing the melody, especially while I'm doing mundane chores around the house. Makes it more fun. Such nice harmonies to sing along with! I love Hardware Store, too! That is some really fine harmony work. It's amazing that all the male vocals are Al. He can really hit those low notes! And Lisa Popeil sounds great, too! Bobbi, you owe it to yourself to listen to the vocal only track for Hardware Store! The all instrumental track is cool, too. Proves how tight Al's band really is! Great topic!

Well, I believe the lowest voice at one point in Since You've Been Gone is Steve... I think it was in Ask Al.

I believe the song you're thinking of is 'Frank's 2,000" TV'. *I know I saw this mentioned in "Ask Al"* It was said that Steve sings the low vocals on that. He may well sing them on "Since You've Been Gone" as well. I was basically talking about "Hardware Store" being all Al with the male vocals. Those are some low notes!

On a trivially related topic, I think my grandma sang bass vocals... weird...

Yeah, I've listened to them all. Finally. Had to take the CD out of the player (which is why I hadn't done it sooner. Still soaking up all the Poodle Hat I can get.) and into the DVDrom.

Good stuff. Al on fast forward is just too funny. Nearly gave me a stroke!

I wasn't quite sure where to put this... I was watching something on E! the other night, and they were doing a bit on Rick James. You will remember his (one and only?) hit Super Freak.

Anyhow... the beginning musical part of Super Freak is exactly like, or very close to the beginning musical part of U Can't Touch This, and therefore I Can't Watch This. Most likely you all probably knew that, but it was news to me.

Yep, Hammer sampled Superfreak for U Can't Touch This. He's not the first, and certainly not the last, rapper to do the requisite sing-over-part-of-someone-else's-song thing. Until I really got into Queen I never realized that the musical part of "Ice Ice Baby" (featured in Polka Your Eyes Out, of course) was sampled from "Under Pressure".

How is sampling different from copyright infringement?

That's a good question. One to which I do not know the answer. Ask Coolio. He's the guy who complained about Al's parody even though he sampled his song from Stevie Wonder.

My vote goes tward Good Enough For Now. I absolutely hate that style of country (and country in general), and it's too bad I waited so long to downl.. I mean BORROW POLKA PARTY FROM THE LIBRARY and listen to it. Not till after PH came out did I finally listen to it, and fall in love with it! I think it's Al's cruelest love song. Even worse (pun?) than I Was Only Kidding. Its not, "I Love You" and its not "I Hate You", but "You're okay, I guess...". When the main chorus came in, "You're sort of everything I've ever wanted" I fell in love... Other songs where the music is pure genius is "Mr Popeil", "Nature Trail To Hell", "Generic Blues", "When I Was Your Age", "The Check's In The Mail", "Germs", and "Bob", and "BBOTIMN"... Boy, someone stop me!
