Yes he did have an album in 1985, but they usually have the subjects in the year they broke through.
Actually, they're often quite off on that when it comes to aspects of pop culture that were popular for more than just one year. They usually do that to TV shows, though, as I recall previous "I Love the '80s" installments putting "Cheers" and "Perfect Strangers" in the "wrong" years.
Perhaps since Al was consistently popular throughout the 1980s, maybe they felt that including him in the "1985" episode was a fair representation of his success in the decade as a whole?

Yeah, we all know Vh-1 tends to get things wrong every so often. *Al hair is jheri curled*
You make a good point about why they may have picked 85, though.
We'll find out soon enough.

Or, if anyone needs a more concrete reason why Al might be lumped in with 1985 stuff, that was also the year he received his first Grammy, so there you go.

HAHA! I just saw a commercial where they're doing the 'You can't do that on television" thing where they get slimed, and I looked up to see Al get slimed!
Eww!

You can get free 3-D glasses from Best Buy (while they last) according to this:
3-D info: A few of you have asked where you can get 3-D glasses in preparation for next week's I Love the '80s 3-D shows. Answer: Starting Oct. 22, Best Buy stores will be giving away the sexy specs while supplies last.
The press release mentions Al briefly.

Well, I just saw the first episode, and it looks like Al has a segment! Movies in 3-D!

I won't say much more, but I loved it! He also plays part of an 80's tune on the accordion. I won't say which one, but it made my day! Now I know to tape this episode when it airs again.
