You know, Regis has had a lot of people on his show; as much as he might wish to do so, he can't waste ABC's precious broadcasting time telling anecdotes whenever there is a connection between a question and someone he's met before -- which I'm sure happens all the time.

Al never parodied Jack and Diane, remember? The Simpsons folks wrote Homer and Marge. Do you know for sure that they didn't ask permission?

Right on, Patti! Buckingham Blues started out as a parody of Jack & Diane, and John Mellencamp gave his approval, but it was being used in some movie, and the producers of the movie wouldn't give approval.

Btw, Jeremy, what are those other songs? I think I've seen those titles, but I'm not sure where they're from.

That's the joke. They're songs that Al came close to parodying but didn't. I don't know "Skeet Shootin'" but "Black Gold" is supposedly similar to TNSWC.
