Alberta, Dr. Demento is a radio host. He plays novelty and comedy music. It was the good Dr. that gave our boy his first big break and has been a good friend and supporter over the years.

Dr Demento actually does do something other than radio. He's a music historian who has conducted interviews and written liner notes for albums (notably Permanent Record and The Remains of Tom Lehrer). A couple years ago he wrote a book about the blues (credited to Barry Hansen -- his real name). Also, he lectures at colleges and makes personal appearances at fan conventions.

And as I understand it, his personal collection of music is pretty much unrivaled.

Well, at least so much that his record collection once weighted down his basement to the point of sinking!

I never realised how big he is over there. I think that book on the blues sounds good.
