I've always wondered about shots like these... If we are seeing Al's face, is Al seeing the camera then? What is he actually pointing the mirror at?
Love and peace.

It's obvious he's pointing the mirror at himself.Sappho wrote:I've always wondered about shots like these... If we are seeing Al's face, is Al seeing the camera then? What is he actually pointing the mirror at?
Anyways, if you haven't watched CBB already you'll notice it switches between view to view. They have separate cameras on set to capture Scott, bandleader and guest. Just works simply for your pleasure

Nope, if we see Al in the mirror then Al sees the camera when he looks at it! Just the same way that if you make eye contact with your friend in a mirror, they are also looking back at you.Heds wrote:It's obvious he's pointing the mirror at himself.Sappho wrote:I've always wondered about shots like these... Yes, we shoot with five cameras for in-studio material!Heds wrote:if you haven't watched CBB already you'll notice it switches between view to view. They have separate cameras on set to capture Scott, bandleader and guest. Just works simply for your pleasure

Re: CBB 502 - "The Lonely Island"
I thought so! Because if he were actually pointing it at himself, because of the angle of reflection we would not be seeing him in it at all, but rather what was on the other side of him, wouldn't we?TMBJon wrote:if we see Al in the mirror then Al sees the camera when he looks at it! And then for it to appear he's looking at himself in the mirror, he can't actually be looking straight at the mirror because then he would be looking straight into the camera. Right?
Sorry for the stupid questions,

Love and peace.

Honestly they just point the camera at the mirror and tell Al "turn the mirror to the left... okay, turn your head a bit toward camera..." etc until it looks right on the monitor. I don't think there's much of a science to it beyond that.

Had to jump through a few hoops to make this available to everyone, but here is a deleted scene from this episode:

Most of the credit should go to Al!chickadee wrote:Saving this from obscurity was an act of a true hero!
The Post team and I really wanted to leak this (Drew aka MandatoryFun even said he would have secretly leaked it at the end of the season), but it took Al saying he wanted to post it to his YouTube in order for IFC and Scott to give the go-ahead.
