And because God and his parents (or God by means of his parents) gave that hair to him. It just took a few decades for the full worth of that gift to be appreciated.

And is long curly hair really all that unusual in rock-musician circles? One of the guys playing in Simon & Garfunkel's band at present has even longer & curlier hair than Al. He also has just a little bit of a double chin and I can't remember his name, so I don't think I'll be suffering any divided hair-loyalties here.
