Al said for a song to make it itno a parody it didn't have to necessarily be good or one he liked, but it had to be popular enough for people to recognize it.
Yes, though Al usually parodies the shticks that used to be serious, there are songs, most of them in polkas, that I like(Chumbawamba's "Tubthumping" for example).
He's said that he only paradies music he likes, but I hope he doesn't like nelly or eminem
"Paradies?" OE, how did you miss that?!
Sorry, jmbl, just kidding. But anyway, I can understand your attitude towards Nelly, it's truly very difficult to call it "music". I'd rather call it "melodeclamations" (if there is such word in English). But what's wrong with Em? Most of his songs are very good and, surprise, FUNNY!
Believe me, Al would never make two parodies of one artist on the same ALbum if he doesn't like him, and "The Real Slim Shady" is a masterpiece.
Heyyyyyyy, it's cool to see so much forum oldies int the topic that you've created. I consider it as a badge of honor...

Scotti, if you really want to help me with CP, can I first name the programs and celebrities that I already know?
And Patti, if you are here, I got a question for you - did you really do the stand-up comedy at AlCON? Tell me more about that, please!!!
OE, how's the guys from the store? Are they still alive?
LOL!!!

Hi, Seva! Yes, that's me doing stand-up in my avatar pic! I think I was 5th in the line-up for The Gong Show. I found out about the show through emails announcing AlCon and the different things fans could participate in. I just thought I'd try my hand at stand-up, and do a little therapy session for myself. That was the best decision I ever made. I had lost my daughter just a month prior to AlCon, and it hit me pretty hard. The whole AlCon experience was just what I needed. My stand-up was about all the funny things my daughter used to do and say when she was little. The crowd seemed to like my act, which really helped me feel good about myself. I was really nervous, though. Even though Kevin Cable (Weird Al impersonator and all-around nice guy), who came on two acts before me, mentioned Al while he was performing his act, I was backstage, and couldn't see what was happening. I did NOT know Al and Suzanne were right in the front row until I got out there. Even though I was nervous, I managed to form sentences and tell a few humorous stories. It really helped me when I'd look at Al and see him smiling.

Both he and Suzanne were very nice to me when we talked later on that day. They both offered condolences on my loss. They really do care about the fans. That's why I love Al and everyone associated with him. Who knows, I may do more stand-up about my two boys next! lol! Anyway, that's my story.
Patti
*I have my stand-up typed up somewhere if you're interested*

At the risk of breaking from the mold... I'll go for the non-detailed review:
I really like Poodle Hat. Al has gotten the musicality down to nth degree. His originals are supern, tune-wise. But, I think the lyrics are missing something. There have been some Al songs I've rolled on the floor laughing at, and none on Poodle Hat do that for me. I afraid Al might take the path of the simpsons: Better animation (or music in Al's case), but not as funny. Just my 2 cents.

I'd rather call it "melodeclamations" (if there is such word in English).
There is now. It's a good one too.
Believe me, Al would never make two parodies of one artist on the same ALbum if he doesn't like him, and "The Real Slim Shady" is a masterpiece.
I don't know if Al likes him or not, but he certainly is the biggest thing in music at the moment. I was wondering if Al had ever done a double whammy on an artist on one album before.
Scotti, if you really want to help me with CP, can I first name the programs and celebrities that I already know?
That's probably a good idea. But if you know Chumbawamba, I'm not sure there's much I can help you with. Actually, pop music I don't know, but I am part of the TV generation. You might think I spend ALL my time online, but no. I still watch way too much tv. And Anna Nichole scares me, too. But I just have to watch. I'm not proud of it, but there it is...

Title: I thought it was kind of a dumb joke until someone explained it as Zappa. I still think it's kinda dumb. Whatever. 3/10.
Art: Spot on, except for the one next to the lyrics, which is kinda creepy. 9/10
1. Couch Potato (9.5/10) There was only one joke in the whole song that wasn't clever, and that was the Richard Simmons joke. And I didn't get the part about Scanners. It flows perfectly, there's nothing forced, it's hilarious, and I can listen to it a lot more than I could the last few parodies. I'm really, REALLY impressed.
2. Hardware Store (10/10) Musically, the most impressive song Al has ever done. The vocal style is nifty, the lyrics fit well... it's the best song on the album.
3. Trash Day (8/10) I've never listened through Hot in Herre the whole way through, because it's a disgusting song. I was really impressed by the Violatin'/Biodegradin'/Nauseatin'/Rescuscitatin' part. That part floored me. The lyrics move fast, but if you catch it all, it's hysterical.
4. Party at the Leper colony (8/10) About half the puns hit the mark, but the really great part is the music (It sounds a lot like Willie and the Hand Jive).
5. Angry White Boy Polka (10/10) I love it love it love it. It's the perfect Garage Rock spoof. I especially like My way (beep beep) or the highway
6. Wanna B Ur Lovr (6/10) Eh. Kinda funny, not the best.
7. A Complicated Song (9/10) Avril deserved it. It's a hilarious song, and it's good he didn't stick with one joke. Very great.
8. Why Does This Always Happen To Me? (9.5/10) It's certainly grown on me. I'm a huge Ben fan, and I'm impressed that Al let a Piano solo in. I was hoping for Ben on vocals in the Remix on the enhanced CD, but all I got was no bass or drums. Laaaaaaaame.
9. Ode To A Superhero (6/10) Write a song about a mega-popular movie based on a decades-old franchise and put it to the tune of a 30 year old song. Saga was better because the movie had just come out, but this was better than Saga because the original song is slightly better. I don't terribly like either original, and I don't terribly like either parody. He said that the reason he didn't do "Pretty fly for a Jedi" is that he thought a new Star Wars movie was an epic event... so why'd he plug another oldies song here? Bonus points for the Glider Thing, Pumpkin Bomb, Power Rangers Mask, and "Scarier without all that on", but I was terribly unimpressed by the chorus.
10. Bob (9/10) It definitely could have been written by Dylan. Clever, clever, clever. The joke isn't the palindromes, it's that it sounds just like Dylan, especially the vocal imitation. The penultimate style parody.
11. Ebay (9/10) Sweet deal. The biggest laugh I had on this album is "My house... is filled with... this crap". Sweet deal.
12. Genius in France (8/10) I'm impressed that he can carry the joke out that long without it being too long. The female choruses bugged me a bit, but that's straight out of 'Montana', so it passes.
Extra Stuff:
Home Movies: (10/10) Chickens. And deer. And penguins. And Camels. And Dinosaurs. And Big Mexican Kids. Watched it three times, will watch again.
Lyrics: (8/10) Sweet deal.
Bonus Mixes (6/10) They all seemed to lack something. Hardware Store Vocals Only was the best of the bunch, but I would have appreciated more depth.
Photo Gallery (9/10) Good Publicity photos
Overall (9.5/10) After Running With Scissors, I approached this one very, VERY cautiously. RWS got old quickly for me, as I could say I liked 2 parodies, two originals and a polka off that album, and one of those originals took a long time to grow on me. That being said, I was really surprised how strong this one was. There were only two weak songs on the whole album and both of those are bound to grow on me, the originals are stronger than they've ever been, and the style parodies are so close and so enjoyable, regardless of opinions of the original artist (and there are five of them in my book - Party at the Leper Colony [Willie and the Hand Jive by Bo Diddley], Wanna B Ur Lovr [Beck/Prince], Why does this Always Happen to Me [Ben Folds Five - come on, it's drums bass and Piano. I'm a huge BFF fan and it sounds just like them, regardless of the fact that Ben plays on the song], Bob [Dylan] and Genius in France [Zappa]). I was blown away by this album, and I couldn't be happier with it.

So far, the most people I have talked to didn't get the Scanners joke or the TiVo thinks I am gay jokes...
Lemme 'splain...
Scanners: It was a movie. People's heads exploded in it. Movie was dumb, but exploding heads is always a funny thing.
TiVo thinks I am gay: TiVO can be set to "Learn" the types of shows you like to watch. For example, if it sees you watch a lot of sports, it will start recording anything to do with sports on any channel. Therefore, Al watched Will and Grace and TiVo decided that Al must by gay and therefore would have started recording other shows like that.

Yep. The Police on "In 3-D."
Someone decided to make a page detailing artists who have a few Al honors under their belt:
