It was a little after midnight by the time Al came out. I met him at around 12:15.

Hi, I'm new here but a long time Al fan. I was at the Kettering show last night and was very confused by the sudden interruption of AP and the breaking into "Radio, Radio." Was it just a joke? Is Al protesting something about the radios? Just curious.

It seems to be just a joke. Al & the band switched to "Radio, Radio" a few shows back when the sound and light cues during Fat got messed up, and apparently seeing Al do "Radio, Radio" in the Fat suit was so funny that even the band cracked up. So why NOT do an Elvis Costello song in an Amish suit?

I've really enjoyed reading these reviews. Autumn, that is so sweet that Al hugged you after you told him about your great grandma. Congrats to Autumn, Kevbo and Jeremy on finally meeting Al. Yay! Only 4 more days for me! :whoot:

I am finally rested up and ready to post.:) I got to bed at 1:45am and my daughter woke up at 7:30..... ready to go home.

This was a fantastic show. The weather was perfect. The performance was astounding, and the meet and greet was an absolute pleasure.

My daughter had the ultimate in the 1st time Al concert experience. She was too little to go with me on previous concert tours, and was just dying to go with me. I'm glad she's finally old enough:)

Thanks to all of you who I met for the first time Friday--- most notably, Kevin, Child of the Spiral, and Linda. Linda-- thank you for the last minute name tag. I had Al sign it at the Meet and Greet.:)

I let Al know we were from Pittsburgh, and introduced my daughter. He mentioned the venue and asked me if he'd ever performed there.. LOL. They had a venue change a month ago to a MUCH smaller venue. So, this will be new for him.

Shelley--- Thanks for everything. It's such a pleasure every time we're able to get together and wait at the buses;) Thank you for taking pictures at the meet an greet. We'll see you on Saturday in Pittsburgh.

Denise :D

What an awesome concert!!!!!!!!!!! (My first concert, and I got to meet Al!!!). I tried to look for everyone's nametags, and I think my mom approached someone wearing a nametag to get a backstage pass, LOL!!! (I was the really short lady in a bright green shirt with "62442" on the back). I'm now considering selling my house and following Al on the rest of his tour, just have to get my hubby's permission first! ;)

I loved that Al did "Radio, Radio". I was just talking about Elvis Costello that day, that's one of my favorites! And all the Al interviews were great. I really can't pick a favorite part of the concert, Albuquerque has always been one of my favorite songs - - I'm so glad that was his encore! We scavenged the ground for confetti, and streamers, no luck with the Al money.

We probably waited a total of an hour to get Al's autograph. He asked my son how old he is, 6, and said "oh, my little girl is four and a half". I totally froze up, and when Al said "Hi, how are you doing?" I was like "good, how are you?". Oh my gosh, I just talked to Al like I do the cashiers at WalMart-- this is Al!!!!!! :oo I wish I would've said something more significant, oh well. But I did get my picture with him-- it's more the back of my head and Al's face, but that counts!

I don't remember who commented earlier in the thread that they wonder if Fraze security just wanted to leave, but my sister overheard a couple of the security guys complaining that this was cutting into their drinking time at BW3's. Apparently they underestimate the importance of Weird Al! >:S

:D Excellent idea...the only flaw is that don't ask permission, you just say "Sweetie Pumpkin, Sugar Elbow, you won't see me around until sometime in mid-October, and if you want to know which city I'm in, just check Al's website."

Delightful to hear about everyone's experiences and read the concert reviews.

:welcome: to the newcomers, and a big HIGH 5 to Jeremy for his meeting with the Poobah. May it be just the first of many more.

What a fantastic show! We were seated 2nd row center left section (we were waving at Kevbo before the show).

We arrived at the venue without mishap, and got directed into our seats.. then wandered back out to stand in the HUGE line for merchandise (I have never seen such a long line!).. picked up a couple shirts for my son (11) and daughter (9) who were with us, bumped into 3 Al fan friends from Columbus in line, nice to see them again!

Went in and found Denise and her daughter, and Darcy and her husband. Chit chatted, then later Denise yelled for me to give me my WOWAY nametag from Linda, I helped out a little with the RRHF petitions with her, and then they announced that they were going to delay the start of the show because it was an outdoor arena, and the stage was facing west and the setting sun was lighting up the screens so much that they would have been difficult to see. No opening act (is that standard for this tour??), and eventually the show did indeed start about 30-45 min late.

There was a guy sitting in front of me (in front row) with his little 5-yr old daughter, both first-timers she apparently got hooked with White & Nerdy and got him re-hooked on Al's music. She was sooo cute every time Al would sing to her (which he did several times) she would get this HUGE grin on her face.
Al had great energy, and Steve was smiling a lot during the whole show. I'm not going to go song-by-song, but here's a few highlights that I remember, sorry if I mix up the order:

The Polka -- everyone stood up and did the chicken dance with them - yay!
At the end, WOW! bubbles like CRAZY!! kids loved 'em hehe

After Canadian Idiot, he had Jon do a drum solo. One of these days I'll have a seat where I can actually see Jon behind his drum kit!

WDTAHTM -- We got this instead of Bob (yay!). It was great! Ruben really did an awesome job on the keyboard. During the keyboard jamming in the middle.. Al went over and sat down in front of Jon's drums and started reading the newspaper! Very funny..

Close But No Cigar -- I'm not a big fan of this song, but if I get to watch Al smack the vibraslap against his butt through the song... I'm all for it. :D

You're Pitiful -- The beginning cracked us up with him checking his paper for the lyrics. Al is a master of funny expressions.

WBUL -- Got a line sung to me from stage early in the song.. can't remember which cause when Al's singing to my my mind pretty much fuzzes over and I'm like.. gaaaaaahhhh :9~ Ya know?
He went up the center aisle next to me, and thank you to the woman that decided to come and kneel right next to me for this song to take pix, thereby ensuring Al wouldn't stop by me cause there was no room. Al just about took a header walking back cause his right foot got all tangled up in a bunch of the streamers that had bunched up on the floor from a previous song. The stagehands put his stagemat down *right* in front of the little girl/father in front of me, but kind of angled it to the side, which was good cause it was kind of funny watching Al try to figure out how he was going to work it so he didn't sing the ending to a 5-yr old.. luckily there was a lady seated next to her so he angled towards her. LOL

Medley -- my daughter was WOW'd by Al's short hair for DICYO ("how'd he DO that??!")
IILWTS - *great* song, the video was funny to go with this.
Sorry to see someone new holding the harmonica for the spideyman parody (which name escapes me now and I'm too lazy too look it up), though the look Al gave him after the first time he rushed out to hold it for him was hilarious.
TITDT - Nice plum-colored shiny/sparkly jacket!! Love this one.

I'll Sue Ya -- Jim's outfit cracked me up! Nice lighting in the middle with Al spotlighted in red close to the light. Unfortunately the Al $$ shot up to the right section so we didn't snag any, but a very nice WOWAYer after the show gave my kids each one that she had picked up. Thank you!!!

TSB/Yoda -- Really weird having this mid-concert and not at the end. Lots of audience participation on both, and the additions to the Yoda Chant were COOL! Ruben was AWESOME on the keyboards for the intro, he broke into a rapidfire playing of something that made my fingers hurt just to watch/listen!

SLN -- The cheerleaders started out out of synch with each other and it was annoying but they quickly got their act together so that they were in synch. We got pelted with the water, and when Al threw the cup it bounced off my fiance Zach's head and behind us! (he had averted his face to avoid the water). I told him next time suck it up and catch the cup. hehe.

AP -- After singing about 2 lines, Al stops and says, "Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, we don't need to do this song. RADIO RADIO!!" (audience: "NOOOO!!!!") and they break into the entire Radio Radio song. Since I don't like Elvis Costello, and I love AP esp. the audience participation, it was kind of a bummer. Hopefully we'll see a full AP at another concert. The crowd didn't seem to know what to do with the substitution.

W&N -- Yep, Al's got that Segway down... but frankly I ended up watching Jim a lot during this song, he was cracking me up!! Keep an eye out for his horrendous White and nerdy dance he does, it's soooo dorky it's funny!!

Fat -- Ok.. yeah.. that stagehand that dresses up as the Ho needs to get paid extra *shudder*..

Cellphones -- this song was GREAT! Sooo cool to look back and see a sea of cellphone screens waving, the guy in front of us gave his to his daughter and she was so tickled to hold it up and wave it. awww!

Alburqueque -- SO awesome to finally see this live!!! If you can get close seats DO IT for this song alone.. Al's facial expressions as he sings/tells the song.. priceless. He added "sugar pickle" into the endearments..you could see him struggle to think of more then just give up and go with that. hehe.

We all grouped up after the concert was over and headed out to the buses. There was by far the most people I've ever seen waiting after a concert, so we were wondering if he'd even do a meet & greet, but Al is SO great to his fans. Ruben came out at one point and led the crowd in chanting "We love the band!" then entered the bus. Since he's often stand-offish I thought that was cool.

They cycled everyone through as Al sat on the bottom step of his tour bus, my daughter got her Al $ signed, and then gave Al a hug that surprised him into a big smile. My son got his Al $ shirt signed (while wearing it, hehe), and my fiance got the other Al $ signed. I got my daughter's shirt signed, and just basically told Al it was an awesome show, thanked him for staying so long for all his fans, and told him that we'd missed him.

A totally AWESOME first concert of the tour experience, thanks to all the WOWAYers that we got to meet/hang out with before and after the concert. I know I'll see some of you again soon!

A few parting thoughts:

When it finally got dark, there were fireflies twinkling occasionally up above the stage in the dark areas and in front of the video screens -- neat!

The venue did allow cameras, so I'll start getting all my pics up to photobucket momentarily. And.. you Al-Gals? Let's just say I was REALLY close for WBUL. :9~
