Okay, I can die now.
After 20 years of fandom, I have finally met Al!
Here's my review:
I got there WAY early just in case of any problems, of which there were none. Then, of course, we had to wait an extra 45 minutes because of the dang sun. But I won't complain about that, because everything else was pure bliss...plus it gave me an extra chance to go to the bathroom!
I was in the second row, center of the right hand side of the stage. Al was so close I could see the beads of sweat and even droplets of spit.
The opening few songs were great, and I was pleasantly surprised that he did WDTAHTM instead of "Bob." Probably one of the best performances of the night was WBUL. Sure, it's basically unchanged from the last tour, but his energy is so amazing in that song it just gets better each time. I am so glad he has made this a permananet replacement for OMM.
I got a huge kick out of "You're Pitiful." I had seen photos of the performance already, but I hadn't seen the one with the "Atlantic Records Sucks!" shirt. I want one of those!
The medley was...long, but fantastic! I loved the show clips they used during IILWTS. Brilliant! That would have made a great video. I also LOVED the Paris Hilton bit in "Headline News!" I had read about the Britney lyrics, and I didn't really find them all that funny, but the Paris lines were perfect and they captured what everyone else has been thinking.
"I'll Sue Ya" was hilarious, especially the way they used the lighting. Very cool.
Of course, you can't go wrong with any of the classics. SLN, "Fat," "Yoda," and TSB were all amazing as every. The great thing is that he doesn't need to change a single thing about those. BTW, my little brother who came to the show with me told me after the show that he thought the Santa costume during "Fat" was really dumb looking.

He didn't realize it was supposed to be a ho.
I was utterly perplexed during "Amish Paradise," when he went into "Radio, Radio." I had never heard that song before, so I thought it must be some new original he had written for some reason. I was straining to hear some jokes, but after a while I noticed that everybody else was seemingly as confused as I was. Kevbo later explained the joke to me. Of course the irony of singing a song about a radio while dressed in Amish attire wasn't at all lost on me, but I thing I would have prefered to hear AP in full. BUT --- If he had to interrupt one of the classic hits, I'd rather it be AP than any of the others.
"Cell Phones" was absolutely brilliant. I loved seeing the sea of cell phones in the audience. What a great way to reuse that old joke. I'd really like to get a copy of that full song somehow...
And of course, "Albuquerque" was a wonderful encore. When I first found out that "Yoda" had lost its encore spot, I was bummed, but now that I've seen the full concert, I have to say it was the right choice. With the removal of "Wheel of Fish" and "Badgers" from the video clips, "Albuquerque" provides some great moments to shout along with Al. And it's epic nature is just perfect for the closing of the show.
Okay, so now for the really good part! After the show, a bunch of us went out by the buses, which were really easy to get to, to wait for the possibility of a meet and greet. We waited for a while, but they didn't kick us out, which we took as a good sign. At one point, Ruben came out, introduced his sister, and then got us chanting "We love the band!" before retreating to the bus.
After listening to Kevbo yammer on seemingly endlessly about how he was worried that he may not come out because of this and that, the security at Fraze informed us that Al would come out. However, he would only give ONE autograph per person and would not have time for posed pictures.
I had the distinct impression that it was the Fraze management that made the decision to keep it brief, since they all seemed to want to leave as soon as possible, and it was already midnight by the time he started signing autographs.
But that was good enough for me! After 20 years of being a loyal fan and never getting the opportunity to meet Al, I finally met my idol. I got him to sign my copy of "Peter and the Wolf." He seemed to be genuinely impressed and surprised to see a copy of that!

I got my handshake and let him know how much his music has meant to me.
And now I can die happily.
