Is there any precedent of a comedy act being the musical guest on SNL?

Frank Zappa was also musical guest, twice I believe--and he hosted once as well. Apparently, he didn't gel at all with the cast (which is visually evident in how they all steer clear of him during the goodnights) and I've always wondered if that left a bad taste in Lorne Michaels' mouth and possibly played a part in Al never getting the invite. But Zappa was known for being difficult sometimes, and Al's reputation is the exact opposite, so who knows.

But Zappa didn't play comedy songs when he was there. And Zappa isn't a comedy act. Yes there are funny songs, but they are far outweighed by his instrumental and straight songs. And zappa's episodes were terrible!! He really vamped to the camera and just made it terrible

I think Zappa's receptions on the show had something to do with the fact that he was the only one there who refused to take any drugs (and yet somehow Belushi was the only one he got along with). The "Night On Freak Mountain" sketch from his hosting gig must surely reflect this.

I know this means nothing, but why does the official SNL Twitter account follow Al?
