Which is why "Polka Power!" is one of my least favorite polkas, if not my least favorite polka. I can count the number of songs in that one which I like on one hand.Bruce the Duck @ Aug 20 2006, 06:04 PM wrote: I think everyone can agree that the more you are familiar with and enjoy the original songs, the more you'll like the polka medley. That's probably why I don't much care for AWBP. There are only two songs on there that I like. The rest are either songs that I never heard of before the polka or songs that are...crap.

I saw that earlier and was hoping nobody would point it out.Bruce the Duck @ Aug 20 2006, 07:04 PM wrote: BTW, anth, you do realize that in an earlier post you claimed that "Bohemian Polka" was your favorite, right?![]()

ITA that the more songs you like in a polka medley, the better it is. And that's one of the things that works to PYEO's disadvantage to me. More than any other polka, it's stuffed with a bunch of one-hit wonder songs. I wasn't really into music when it came out (being three and all) and only a handful of the artists ever did anything else of note, so a lot of those songs are long-forgotten. But I'm more familiar with the songs featured in all of the later polkas (although other than BP, TAP is the only one where I actually like all of the music) and all of the previous polkas.
I'm ranking every Beatles song on my new pop culture blog. Check it out!

You're right, they're mostly one-hit wonders, with the exception of R.E.M., B-52s, Warrant, Metallica, Billy Idol, Motley Crue, Bel Biv Devoe, and Janet Jackson. Okay, so only LESS THAN HALF of the songs were one-hit wonders, but still.

But even witht he one hit wonders, I loved those songs growing up, and I was especially familiar with "Unbelievable," "I Touch Myself," and "The Humpty Dance," having heard them countless times at Bar Mitzvahs that year.

Thanks... the only song by them that I knew was the one included in the polka, and that was only because it was in the polka.algonacchick @ Aug 20 2006, 10:58 PM wrote: Bel Biv DeVoe had a song called "Poison" that I actually kinda liked. It was a hit.
