Like you, Hardware Store is my favorite Al song on the album. In fact, I think it's
between that and "I Was Only Kidding" as my all time favorite Al song.

From what I understand (correct me if I'm wrong), Al was working with something called "Pro Tools" which (among many other things), can take out micro pauses between words so they can be compressed into a shorter time frame without making the words intelligible.

There are also a multitude of "layers" in the song (about 35-40) which cannot be recreated live. I'm sure you can tell that from the "richness" of the song... it's a veritable woven carpet of finely textured sounds.

Ultimately, the song is just too technically complex to be done live. But it is a brilliant song

That song is way too complex for Al to do live. Plus, if was possible, we would probably have Al passed out on the ground after listing everything in the store. I sure wouldn't want that. :(

We'll, we got "Albuquerque" live at an Albuquerque concert. Maybe if you're lucky, he'll do a show in the middle of a Home Depot. :P

I think you're being just a bit harsh on the rest of us. You insulted Al by saying not everything was live at the concert you went to. I think my answer was plenty intelligent. He said it would be hard to perform the song live. I'm glad sg elaborated about Protools, but, you shouldn't have said what you did about Al.
