This response is leading me to start to think we may be seeing a Led Zeppelin polka on Album 14.
I thought that too, but this

made me think he was saying it was a standard current pop-song polka. Reading it again, it's less clear than I thought originally, so who knows? Well, Al knows. And the band. And Patton Oswalt.
As much as I love the standard polkas, I don't listen to that much pop music anymore and a Zeppelin polka would be pretty sweet.
Boys are we really still on the whole Beatles/Zeppelin polka thing
Let it go, guys
Why is that even a thing that would happen
Everyone is going slightly mad
Same tho
Just shhhh

Album 14 will be out soon enough don't you fret
Anyway I have no real speculation anymore at this point
Just hoping for pretty voice songs and cool music songs and funny joke songs and combinations of the three
Definitely keep the speculation coming!!!! It's good for a laugh
10 of the previous 13 songs that were parodied for the lead track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. (Smells Like Teen Spirit, Living in America and MacArthur Park did not, although they peaked at 6, 4 and 2, respectively.) "You're Beautiful," which presumably would have been the lead parody on SOL if not for the nonsense, also reached #1.
So, as we're guessing which song Al is going to pick for the lead-off spot this time, we should be looking at songs that hit #1. Right now, that's "Fancy" by Iggy Azalea, which explains the rampant speculation surrounding this one. (It's also catchy, which is a plus.) Other songs on the charts right now that have been at #1:
John Legend - "All Of Me." Love this song, but it seems like it would have to be more of a massive, ubiquitous hit to be in contention. It's way too slow for a lead-off that isn't already lodged in everyone's head.
Pharrell Williams - "Happy." I'll be surprised if this isn't on the album in some form. It's been around for a while, so it could actually already be parodied or in the polka (most likely, IMO.)
Katy Perry - "Dark Horse." Another one that's "old." I could see this one, but again, its status is probably already set.
And that's it for songs still in the top 30. Anything else probably isn't realistically on the radar. None of the newer stuff in the top 10 feels like a contender to me, so if it's not one of these, we've probably got a bit more of a wait on our hands.
"Fancy" still feels like a possibility to me. I don't think Al is all that concerned with potential "one-hit wonder" artists more than he is what SONG is entering the zeitgeist right at this particular moment. Also, it's impossible to predict who will be a flash-in-the-pan, one-hit artist and who will go on to have long careers. For proof, look no further than Al himself, who many wrote off as a one-trick pony novelty act after "Eat It". (Flash-forward to Al's career having survived longer than a lot of the artists he's parodied.)
"Fancy" is certainly creeping into pop culture. . .I know because if even I can't seem to avoid hearing it, it must be everywhere! I'll admit that it's a pretty catchy song, though, and I could totally see Al parodying it.
Al is probably at least considering Fancy, but if I were him, I would be inclined to wait and see what pops up over the next month or two. Don't forget that Al at first said there was no chance he would parody Born This Way before settling on doing exactly that a month or two later.
I couldn't tell a dirt clod from a plate of caviar.
Right, I guess I'm just saying that I don't think he's dismissing "Fancy" simply because Iggy Azalea MIGHT turn out to be a one-hit wonder. I think it's definitely in the mix, but yeah...if a good parody concept can't be hitched to it then he should wait and see if he has an "ah-ha!" moment with a different big summer release.
