He put a leak of his entire album on Twitter? That seems like the perfect way to destroy a career.

Tell the Foo Fighters, who only had their first #1 album of their career after putting up their stream.

Or any other artist who's done it or label that's done it, for that matter.

It's great promotion, and helps slow hooliganism in the process.

The album would have leaked anyway. It's impossible to prevent that nowadays. So Al held out as long as he could then just went with. I'm sure he'd rather the album not leak, but by leaking it himself first, he gets the scoop, the extra publicity, and has control over when and where it leaked.

Elton John leaked his last album 2 weeks before it came out last October. It debuted at #3 -- highest in over 30 years. People love full preview streams — it helps more than hurts.

I'm glad that people (mainly the industry) are finally starting to see that the internet is a good thing for musicians.

If not for internet streaming, NO ONE but diehard fans would've known the Cars reunited and put out a fantastic new album.

Thanks to the promotion, top ten. Granted, a beneficiary of the market, but still...nice comeback
