I hope it's not a parody of "Do I Make You Proud" just to throw us all for a loop.
P.S. I've never heard a Hick's song in my life... are his songs actually popular and get air play outside of live performances on American Idol?

Well, that's Hicks' only hit song, so there's really no other choice.

Yeah, this particular song did the airplay outside the show. In fact, it wasn't even until the Season finale of American Idol that the song was played on the show. Of course its safe to assume most of these sales were to fans of the TV show.
Courtesy of Wikipedia,
Billboard magazine confirmed that "Do I Make You Proud" sold 190,000 physical singles and 38,000 digital downloads during its first week, prompting a number-one debut on the Billboard Hot 100 for the issue dated July 1, 2006 [2]. As of August 2006, Taylor Hicks has sold 408,000 singles.
"Do I Make You Proud" remained number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 for one week, gradually declining until it left the chart after eight weeks.

I was in denial for a while about this parody, hoping that it was a parody of "Taking it to the Streets" or "Possibilities" or ANYTHING else, cause I hated the song so much. But after many repeated listenings, the song is starting to grow on me and I have accepted that there really isn't any other reasonable choice.

I don't like Hicks as well, but I don't listen to Al's music for the music. I listen to it for the lyrics.

Does anyone think this song might poke fun at Taylor Hicks? I know Taylor's very popular and has extremely loyal fans, but on the flip side, I also know he creeps more than a few people out. Just a thought, and it wouldn't be the first time Al was pretty biting towards the original songwriter or song. ("It's Still Billy Joel To Me" and "Achy Breaky Song")

I saw him on Leno the other night (first time I've seen him talk or perform, other than that commercial) and he sure creeped me out!

Well, based on the few lyrics that were leaked, it doesn't sound like it's making fun of Taylor. It sounds more like a creepy stalker thing to me.

Ah, I haven't read the lyrics. Thanks.
