LOVE the cover art! Very awesome. I think it's more eye-catching than a photograph personally. People are probably more likely to pick it up and see what it is in the store.

I really hope Australia isn't hopelessly slow with this release like it usually is :( I may just order from Amazon and have it shipped...Either way, I don't think I'll be able to see this on TV.

Everyone over at Comedy Central takes Twitter really seriously, so if you use Twitter and like to tweet about Weird Al, I recommending sending @replies to: @ComedyCentral, @TheDailyShow, and @ColbertReport, about how Al should be booked on those shows.

I kinda hate to burst everyone's bubble on this, but getting your own huge Comedy Central special does NOT ever guarantee a guest spot on The Daily Show or Colbert. Every year Comedy Central airs (and heavily promotes) dozens of brand-new one-hour specials based around a single comedian, and I can't think of a single time when that comedian got a Daily Show or Colbert guest spot as a result of it. Sometimes if a Daily Show correspondent has their own special coming up, Jon will take a moment to promote it at the end of an episode, but that's about it. They're Comedy Central's #2 & #3 most popular shows by far (behind only South Park), which makes them REALLY difficult, competitive shows to get booked on. They don't have to listen to the network's synergy requests, so they very rarely do that sort of blatant cross-promotion.

But if it's any consolation, as October 1 nears we'll VERY likely see some commercials for Al's special during The Daily Show & Colbert's commercial breaks! That's something, right?

On Al's website, it says that there will be extras on the DVD. I am not sure if the extras will be music videos or behind the scenes, but at least we have extras!

Well, I'm glad to finally hear some confirmation from Al and his camp on when this will air. I guess my prediction wasn't that far off. I'm a little disappointed that it will debut on TV in October and not September, but it makes sense seeing as how they did a similar thing with Colbert's Christmas special a few years back (except I think the soundtrack/DVD may have hit stores before the special aired on television). I hope the Polka Face video will be seen online before Comedy Central airs it. Man, I wish he'd quite stringing us along and give us an actual release date for that video already!

I am definitely liking that cover a lot more now that I see it close up. It's definitely more appealing than the last live DVD. I like how the artists paid incredible attention to detail. Also, is the press release link not loading for anyone else?

Yeah, the press release link is NOT working for me either. Obviously something is wrong with their server (maybe).

EDIT: The press release page in general is down.

You're not bursting anyone's bubble. No one said the special guarantees a spot on those shows. In fact, if I thought that were the case I wouldn't suggest everyone send tweets to those accounts. Specifically because it's a somewhat unlikely thing, I am suggesting we all tweet to them saying how it would be a good idea. If they see there is an online push for it, it might happen. I have seen several instances over the last couple years where a weekend stand-up special on Comedy Central results in a guest spot on one of the two tentpole shows, and I would love to see Al show up on one of them. Of course it won't happen if we do nothing, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

I just learned about this, and I am excited. I only read the first few posts in this thread, so I might be asking stuff that had been answered, but I'd like to give some thoughts.

I figure this will include the recent music videos that aren't on the Alpacalypse DVD, but it would be great if it also included the three Straight Outta Lynnwood music videos not on the DVD side of that. And although it would mean double-dipping, I won't mind if it includes all the music videos from Alpacalypse. I'm sure there's some who just bought the CD or the vinyl release, and this would be a good way for them to own the music videos without having to also purchase the CD/DVD version.

I wonder how many past songs will be included, particularly from the last live DVD. I know Al once said that the setlist would have to change significantly before doing another concert video, but felt he couldn't retire quite a few of his biggest songs from concerts. I'm sure the new album will get the most representation, but I hope that this release includes at least one song from all his albums (though I know his last concert didn't include anything from the debut album, Polka Party, or UHF, and I think the last Live video also excluded stuff from the last two mentioned).

I can't wait for this.

Well UHF should be covered this time around of course. I am totally surprised they didn't do one song from Polka Party though.

Yes, every album is represented in some way except for Polka Party. Thats ok though. At least one from every album will be on there.. can't wait to have the Blu-Ray in my hands.
