Wow...no album news for so long and then BAM! A whirlwind news day!
Not sure what's going on here, but my earlier theory about maybe this was not REALLY Gaga turning it down and actually one of her handlers, manager, etc. might actually be the case. It COULD also be Gaga doing damage control, but it doesn't seem too far-fetched that someone might have done the talking for her.

Album 13... that number really is bad luck.

I'd hate to bring this awful idea up, but is it possible that this was all just some publicity stunt facilitated by Al and/or his record company? The Couch Potato controversy helped W&N to become Al's best-charting single ever, so maybe they wanted to replicate that success, this time with an even bigger artist. I know it's an disgusting thing to accuse them of, but with everything that's happening right now, it's looking more and more apparent to me. Scream me down if you want, but I'm genuinely scared that they might have destroyed an innocent woman's career for financial benefit.

Uhm, how did Couch Potato help White and Nerdy become a hit?

I really, really, really doubt Al would involve a charity organization in any kind of media hoax or fake stunt. The human rights issues are far too important for him to pull a fast one like that.
Speaking of which, should there be any kind of consensus on what folks should donate to the HRC? At the bottom of the form you can add a custom amount.

I've volunteered for them in the past, and any amount is good - just whatever you feel comfortable with.

I really, really doubt that because Al doesn't need to do that.
I don't believe Couch Potato was linked to White and Nerdy. Al was allowed to make the song, but not the video (which was just amusing because Eminem was upset when Jackson rejected HIS request).
The Pitiful incident made that particular song freely accessible to anyone who wanted it. It was free instead of something you had to buy. This in turn resulted in it spreading like fire.
Al does not need to cause drama in order to be popular or get attention/traffic. Al's not the kind of person who would do that either. He is protected by law for parody but he still gets permission so people are happy.
If the song had been approved, fine-- it would have ended up with a single, and a music video-- that video would have spread across the internet like crazy, and in turn-- brought attention to both his music, and Lady Gaga's music. It's win-win. White and Nerdy resulted from Pitiful's rejection. THAT turned into a huge thing on it's own accord. His music great, and his videos are awesome. He has no need to cause false drama.
Since this song was rejected-- after he was strung along for an extended period of time, he put it out, like You're Pitiful was.
