It's not too surprising, considering hip hop artists usually have strong debuts. Last year around this time, Kanye West sold roughly 860,000 copies his first week!

Such as the singles charts it now seems. :D

But yes, there's also the aforementioned "Top Comedy Albums" chart, in addition to the "Top Internet Albums" chart...and heck, Al could very well crack into the rap charts for all we know. And of course, this might also boost the sales for a certain TV show boxed set that just came out.

Considering that September 26 was probably the last major music release date of the year (what, like, 900 new albums all came out that day?), SOL was still only among five new releases to make the top ten. I can't begin to describe how amazing that is, that Al has the fifth highest selling new release in the country. One just has to ask, "Where the heck have all these people been for the last twenty-three years?"

But I kid. We've got a new single/video to look forward to, in addition to a "Tonight Show" appearance, and apparently more public and media appearances in the coming weeks. Who knows what could happen.

I checked in the Media section but couldn't find anything about an appearance on the "Tonight Show". Is there a definite date for that?

It would be wonderful to get him on the Daily Show. Jon Stewart is usually very nice to his guests. Wonder if an email campaign to Jon Stewart would be effective?

Can't wait to see this episode...

I wonder if Jay Leno's head will explode

Yeah, I was just finding that out from other threads. Unfortunately, MySpace is blocked at work, so I can't access it until after I get home. (Man! I hate that I can't get to MySpace!)

Maybe I can stop by the library at lunch today! :Y

Thanks!

If he's before October 13th, he isn't listed on the official website..but who knows, he might be a "lesser" guest for one of the upcoming dates..<_<...I guess we'll just have to keep an eye out...

We have another new single, for sure? I'm lost...did you mean the debut of a corresponding single that will go along with the new video? (IE-another song off of SOL will be released as a single, therefore giving Al ANOTHER spot on the charts?)

Why was Sept. 26th the last major music release date? Is that something contractual?

I'm not too worried about a "Tonight Show" appearance, actually... Al appeared on it about a year ago performing with Ben Folds, and Jay was nice to him then (of course, TWAS had not yet been released on DVD).

I didn't get the impression from the TWAS commentaries that there was anyone from the Tonight Show truly upset at Al. But then I don't think I've heard every commentary yet. Is there anything more significant than "Oh No! Al's coming! Run!"

Wow! This is great news! Way to go, Al! And it's #10 at amazon!
