What's your SN mean?

Mine's just a shortened version of my name: my first name is Billy, my last initial is W, and I'm a Third, as in my father and grandfather are also named Billy. And, yes, my legal name is Billy, not William. I will answer to Bill, although my father and grandfather both go by "Bill", so to avoid confusion, around my family, I'm still Billy.

At least I'm not "little Billy" anymore. My extended family called me that for years to distinguish me from my Dad when he still went by "Billy". Anyway, I've rambled and ranted enough.

To sum up: Billy W. III = BillyW3

A lot of really cool SNs!

Mine is a French word meaning "in days gone by"/"in another time". When I first learned what this word meant I really liked it. I used to be really interested in medieval times so I guess it made me dream of living in my (idealized) vision of the Middle Ages.

I wrote a song called "Autrefois" and people liked it, so I copyrighted it and not long after that, I started using "autrefois" as my online persona, for a lot of things although I sometimes just use my name or variations of it.

Autrefois is good too cuz for email addresses, English-speaking sites, etc., it usually isn't taken yet!

So autrefois has absolutely nothing to do with Weird Al (but now that I think of it, I can picture Weird Al in a medieval green costume, tights and all, Robin Hood-style!! Playing a lute of course), I thought it'd be quicker than thinking up an Al-related SN just to find out it had been taken already!!

On behalf of every one of us who has ever posted to the Drooling Over Al topic, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for giving us an excuse to imagine Al wearing green tights.

Of course, Al doesn't play any stringed instruments (well, a piano has strings, but you know what I mean) and the accordion wasn't invented until 1820, but after doing a little hunting around, I think that the organetto would make a satisfactory substitute. It, like the accordion, has to be simultaneously pumped and played, but Al should have no trouble mastering that, and, besides, it looks very satisfactorily strange.

Men in tights! Woo Hoo!

Well, I was taking Koine Greek in college and started wanting to post on a wrestling message board, so I thought, "Why not look up the Greek word for nobody?" I did, and it was Medemeis. The feminine version was Medemia, which I thought flowed better, so I chose that one. Not that I'm female, but it just sounds better. It's a backhand way of saying that I'm a nobody. Fun stuff.
