Can you girls remember when was THE moment when you realized, "Whoa... Al is... really, really hot"?
What picture or video footage were you watching? What did Al do or say that just stopped you in your tracks?
I'll share my story if you tell me some of yours... <3

I am interested in hearing your story, Alouette... just waiting to see if anyone else is going to go first (at this rate, it might have to be you).

It wasn't a picture or a video-- it was my third live show, at Cal Poly SLO. I was in the second row. 'Nuff said. I am always impressed by how much better-looking Al is in person than he is in most of his recorded images.

I'd have to say, watching the behind the scenes videos for the WAN video.

OK, the live version of You Don't Love Me Anymore on the first "Al Music" special. The combination of the sensitivity with the funny, you know? The straight delivery of such funny, clever lyrics while looking so lonely and dejected that it almost breaks your heart? That's what made him "pop" for me. Up until that point, I just thought he was funny.
I know we'll never get to see Al in anything too serious or straight because he doesn't want to be, but I'm all for more "dejected ballads" with warped lyrics, sight gags, other gags, anything going on like that while he sings it perfectly straight and with as much sensitivity as he can. I think it's hilarious and heartbreaking (the "aww" factor?) at the same time. I guess I like the conflict/tension that results from the two opposite emotions. And he nailed it. Especially in the Al Music special, where it was just him alone (singing to his backing tracks). He looked even more lonely without Jim playing guitar next to him! I wish I had a clip of that to post right now.
Oh dear, so much for my resolve to stay off this thread.

But I am speaking purely about his performance, of course. And that's probably the effect he was going for, so yes, it definitely worked on me. I bought my first album because of this particular song.
