All from @pattonoswalt:
Also, @alyankovic's hit a level of mastery where, by parodying ONE song by a band, he nails what's genius, silly & lovable about them.
Answering a question on which song he's talking about:
You'll see. It starts as a SPECIFIC parody of a SPECIFIC song & then ends up celebrating their whole catalog.
The group @alyankovic parodies on his new album is one of the MOST influential, MOST respected 90s outfits & oh my God he nails it.
100% new stuff. With the best polka medly he's ever done, which is saying something.
Probably won't happen next year. But VERY soon, through sheer, mass demand, @alyankovic WILL play the Super Bowl halftime show.

Oh there was a few people on here that said they would not listen to any of the leaks until the actual album came out. They of course had to change their minds if they went to any of the 2010 showd

Patton Oswalt responding to someone guessing Nirvana:
But he already DID Nirvana, didn't he? Go deeper.

Holy cow! What influential 90's band (who are apparently by turns genius, silly, and loveable) do you think would warrant a pastiche-parody like he's talking about?

Radiohead springs immediately to mind, for me.

Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, Green Day, Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Weezer, Oasis, No Doubt, Sublime, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage...

But when he says "go deeper," I'm thinking of a band that was more influential than hugely popular, like Pavement.

I know Patton's a fan of the Pixies, but I don't think he'd call them a '90s band.

Maybe Daft Punk? Smashing Pumpkins?

Hmmmm....I was thinking Pixies too when he first said "I've worshipped since the 90s", but the second bit seems to confirm it's a strictly 90s (Well, probably bleeding into the 2000s too) act.

Damn. Really wanted to hear Al doing his best Black Francis

Well, Daft Punk makes logical sense. They're an influential 90's band. They seem to fit the genius-silly-loveable descriptors pretty well. The SPECIFIC song Oswalt talks about kicking things off could be "Get Lucky", but maybe it veers off into a DP pastiche after that. Thing is, I don't think I'd be able to identify any other DP songs besides "Get Lucky", but that's just me.
