Lyrically speaking, it reminds me of Jonathan Coulton. His songs are often about the secret depression of a lot of unexpected people and things. "Shop Vac" is about a depressed married couple trapped in suburbia; "Tom Cruise Crazy" is about a depressed Tom Cruise haunted by his fears of growing old and unloved; "I Crush Everything" is about a depressed giant squid who longs for human companionship; "Code Monkey" is about a depressed computer programmer; "You Could Be Here" is about a depressed pretzel shop employee; etc...

That's me in 1994! Skipper Grant! Also a Theater Major at the Time! Oy this song hits hard!

I only wish Al'd done the rest of the jokes he starts in the spoken word part like, "Good thing we're only 15 feet away, he'd jump right over us."

Awesome, Grant! haha!!

Is that one of the Jamboree Bears? *I think that's what they were called. It was 35 years ago when I first went, so, forgive me if I'm wrong*

I think I was waiting in line to see them, and had to go to first aid because it was like 90 degrees with 90% humditiy, and I nearly fainted. Other than that, I enjoyed going to Disney World with my family, and remember enjoying the Jungle Cruise.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I was thinking about Skipper Dan's life path and then about all the people Al must have met during 30 years of living in Hollywood who struggle to find a niche in Show Business and wind up settling for less. Al himself is one of the incredibly lucky ones. Those Myspace trolls just don't have the life experience to enjoy a song like this. If he'd filled it up with fart jokes or worse they'd be all, like, epic WIN! and stuff. I think Al's allowed to write a song for grownups once in a while, especially one as well-crafted and enjoyable (in a bittersweet way) as this one.

Agreed! I was going to bring this up earlier. The ending especially reminded me of Mr. Coulton.

Thanks for the annotated version, Helen! (though I did get about 95% of the references on my own ;))

I added a small blurb about this song to The Jungle Cruise's Wikipedia page.
