I suppose somebody who knows UHJeff could ask him. I know Jeff was aware that the book of condolences was on the way, and had promised to make sure it got to Al promptly (Jeff's the guy who opens, de-parodifies & delivers the fan mail to Al).

I sent a gift when Nina was born and got a handwritten thank-you note from Suzanne.

I wrote Al an appallingly long fan letter shortly after I joined this forum, but I said specifically that I did NOT want an autograph or a picture (it was more fun to finally get an autograph in person anyway), so I wasn't expecting a reply.

I do know of people who have had Al verbally mention cards or letters they'd written when they saw him in person.

I think what it comes down to is, with the volume of fan mail Al gets, he can't hope to answer it except to respond to properly SASE'd autograph requests... slowly if it's a generic autograph request, and much more slowly than that if it's a personalized autograph request. On the question of whether Al READS his fan mail, all we have to go on is Al's having said that he does read it all eventually, and our judgment of whether Al is a truthful person or not. Me, I think he is and does.

I think I got a reply from him, but the Subject was "Stinky Cheese" so I deleted it.

Is there any known address to send fan mail? The last known address I've seen was listed in the booklet for Running With Scissors. Has it changed since then, cause I can't find anything on the website.

That poor UHJeff! Hopefully things have improved for him :)

If someone just wants to send a message and doesn't want an autograph, there's always Al's MySpace page :)

How nice! I think you'll find similar stories regarding thank yous from the Y's after their wedding, as well!

I should mention, I think, that I sent the gift to Suzanne... so it wasn't a case of Al shuffling off the thank-you note job onto his recently-arisen-from-childbed wife! :D She got the note to me a month after Nina was born... I was amazed!

I know this may be an odd question, OE, but how DID you send something to Suzanne? Was this just personal info that you happened to stumble upon, or is there some way for her to receive things like cards or gifts from fans without having to send them through Al?

Well, not through him. But you know what I mean.
