Musicians who hate Al: Daryl Hall and Prince
Which makes me wonder: did Prince ever express any explicit hatred towards Al or his music? I was only under the impression that he held his music was close to him and didn't like the idea of Al parodying it. Or perhaps he was never as much of a jerk about it as Mr. Hall here?

Prince hasn't expressed outright jerkness towards Al, like Mr. Hall here, but I don't think he's got that much of a sense of humor about himself.
When he was offered a spot on the Simpsons, he refused unless they used the script that he'd written. Now, it seems like everytime someone is playing themselves on the show, they're making fun of themselves, so it seems to me that Mr. Purple either can't make fun of himself or that he has a enormous ego. Or maybe both.
I could be wrong. He might not've let Al parody him because 'When Eggs Fry' was kinda crappy.

Well Al had other parodies too, so I doubt it was just that one was bad. I think it was just that Prince has too much love for his music to let someone else change it.

Not to get too off topic, but check out the "Evening With Kevin Smith" dvd, if you haven't already. There's a downright hilarious story about Prince and his somewhat enormous ego.
He wouldn't allow one of his songs in Smith's movie, but had the gall to ask Kevin to take a week of his life and live in Minnesota filming a movie about Prince.
you'd think he'd just let Al do a parody.

Who wrote the script for "The Simpsons"? I'm confused.

Originally the Simpson's staff had written an episode where Leon Kompowski (The guy that thought he was Micheal Jackson) came back and thought he was Prince. Prince hated the script, so he had another one made by his chauffeur or something. It's on the Stark Raving Dad commentary in the season 3 boxset.
So, how 'bout that Darryl Hall? Kinda a jerk, eh?

Well maybe he should come back and think he is Al. That would make an interesting episode.
