Please let this be a typo...a really blatant and strange typo...not that one spot makes THAT much of a difference, but #9 sounds a lot better than #10...Squirrelygirl @ Oct 4 2006, 09:50 AM wrote: The mothership is reporting that the debut was at #10.![]()

Keep in mind that although they are extremely accurate, there are only an estimate and only Billboard will give the true results around Wednesday.
Yes, #9 would be better, but the numbers of copies (I think Poodle Hat also looked better in Hits as well) is more important than a #9 debut. It's still top ten

You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

I had a feeling last night that there could be a final adjustment to the ranking in "Billboard" since these numbers were just a very strong guide, but I didn't want to be a party-pooper...plus, like I said a while ago, I also didn't want to jinx anything.
But this is truly excellent news. Now, whenever some jerk tries to dump on Al or mock those who like him, all we have to do is say "top ten album." Artists who are no longer relevant to the music scene don't score top ten albums, and they certainly don't sell 73,000 copies in the first week.
This year it seems quite a few artists with long careers and huge fan bases have seen a resurgence in mainstream success. On today's chart alone Tony Bennett hit #3, and earlier this year Barry Manilow topped the chart. Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe it's people now finally appreciating what these artists have been offering all these years. Regardless, it seems as if Al is now in that category.
So no matter what happens next week, if the album rises or falls, probably nothing will top this news. Best debut ever, first top ten debut, and (at the moment) highest chart position ever.
Congratulations Al, Jim, Steve, Ruben, and Jon...it's been a long time coming!
