I have been thinking...

What if TWAS DVD and ALbum 12 were released concurrently? Al could put the music video(s) from album 12 on the DVD as bonus material (along with the Bob video). I would watch out for a DVD release date. That may indicate around when album 12 comes out (I would assume the DVD would come out after album 12).

Just my 27 cents.

I think releasing the album and TWAS DVD on the same day would clutter the market and hurt the sales of both releases. True, it can be viewed as each of them promoting each other, but if a casuAL fan walks into the store and can only afford one, they may forget about the other down the line.

The release dates of these things will be months apart. That's just the way it has to be if Al wants both to have good sales.

Besides, when a DVD is announced, the release date is usually a LONG time away. The DVD releases of Invader Zim were announced in November 2003 and the first volume was released on May 11, 2004. It'll be a while.

Off-topic, but does that mean we could expect TWAS DVD in July/August?

It might be even later. When Shout! makes their official announcement, it will probably be 3-4 months after that...for all we know, Al just signed a contract with them to release them yesterday and they haven't even started to work on them. Probably not, but a brief blurb unfortunately isn't enough to give us an approximate time for the release.

My birthday....

Well, the album could be released in March, like most people predicted, and this TWAS DVD be released in July/August/September, or even November (Right before the holiday sales)

:D

Diva, I haven't seen you online in quite a while :) Of course, I haven't posted online much this past year myself.

I'm excited about the new release, because I have never seen the show before.

True, but the one x-factor is that there are two different labels involved.

In years in which Al has had two regular retail products, such as in 1988 or 1996 or 1999 (among others), his label was smart enough to space them out, because as you pointed out it would have been a bit of an overkill to come out all at once.

But in this instance, Shout! Factory is doing the show DVD, and they may not feel any need to work around Volcano's album release schedule. Just for another kind of example, one of the films missing from MGM's "Pink Panther Collection" boxed set is 1975's "Return of the Pink Panther," which is owned by Artisan. If they wanted to, they could very well have released a DVD of their film at the same time the MGM boxed set came out in order to cash in on it.

I'm not saying that Shout would intentionally try to do something like that, and therefore potentially muck up the album sales, but it's not completely unimaginable. I would hope somewhere in the deal they signed they are obligated to give other new Weird Al product a big enough selling window before they can go ahead and release theirs.

But all of this is probably just unnecessary worrying. The DVD set has just been announced, which means work on it has probably just begun or is still fairly early along. Even if Album 12 comes out in March, to pull a date out of thin air, and the DVDs come out in, to again guess, June, that's probably a wide enough gap between the two.

Ideally, though, what would probably be best is if the DVDs aren't released until after the summer, as in after a summer leg of a tour, so Al can shift gears a bit and do the talk-show circuit to promote the DVDs.

Greg, I like your thoughts on this. I agree that it would be best if the TWAS DVD came out after the summer tour. Let's just hope your other date you pulled out of thin air, a March release for album 12 also comes true.
