World of Weird Al Yankovic

We thought it was pretty funny when he stripped down to his pink tutu.

My favorite Al Moment was when we were getting out SOL CDs autographed in Hollywood. We were 3rd, 4th and 5th in line. The security guys were trying to rush us through and I wanted a picture. So Al whispered, "Let me know when you're ready" and was writing slowly so I could focus. I told him when I was ready and he looked up and smiled between my kids heads. That was very very kind of him...

For me, every concert has had a "special moment". When I saw him in Roanoke for TWS, he stopped a few feet in front of me during OMM and smiled for a little girl who wanted to take his picture. I thought that was really sweet of him to do.

When I saw him at Glen Allen in May, the whole show was special since it was the first show of the North American tour and then I got the big finish to WBUL sung to me! As he was waving good-bye at the end of the show, I stuck my arm out and waved at Al. He stopped, bent down to my eye level, and waved back at me.

At the Carowinds show, I got to have a brief "staring contest" with Al during "Albuquerque" then, after the show, even though he looked absolutely exhausted, he took the time to come over to the fence where a group of us were standing. He said he couldn't stay but told us to put our fingers through the chainlink fence and he went down the line, tapping our fingers and thanking us for coming out to the show. Even my mom, who has no idea who he is, thought that was really sweet of him.

I've also gotten to meet a lot of great fellow Al fans during the last two concerts I've been to and it proves to me that Al's right when he says he has "the best fans in the world". One of the reasons I love going to Al's concerts is sharing in other fans' enthusiasm. It's like going to a big party with hundreds of friends you haven't met but who are sharing in the same joyful experience you are.

Oh man, a celebrity who subverts the security minions... it doesn't get better than that.

That reminds me of another amusing anecdote......

Al "subverted" the security guards in Ocean City on 8/17/2000 (practically an anniversary)!

Dan, Courtney, and Amy were waiting around with me because I wanted to see Bermuda if at all possible. While we were waiting, Weird Al came out from the backstage area. He was surrounded by four security guards who were going to escort him to what I think was the restaurant. I think Al is sort of uncomfortable with the whole "gotta protect the rock star" thing. He seemed a little bemused at Hershey Park when he was escorted around the park in a cart with security guards running along side (just like the President)! Plus, the Ocean Downs security guards were sort of disorganized; they had a hard time forming a box around Al. Couldn't seem to work the angles, I guess.

Anyway, we caught Al's eye and waved. He waved back. We thought that was just great and would have been happy with that! Then Al just sort of walks away from the security guards and comes over to say hello.

My husband saw SOL concert in Phile, but I couldn't go because I had to work (bummer), but he had bought tickets for August at the PNC Arts Center in NJ, so I had to wait all the way til then. When he came back from the Phile concert he told me about a few things (and how he missed me being there :-). And one was that Al took off shirts during You're Pitiful, until the last was a SpongeBob shirt like the one I have, but he didn't tell me the rest of the story.

So, we're at the concert and Al's singing You're Pitiful and I'm laughing because I know about the last shirt (and I was ready to cheer for SpongeBob). But then he removes his pants revealing that tutu and the heart boxers, I couldn't breathe I was laughing so hard. Everyone else was laughing and then everyone stopped laughing and moved on and I was still choking with tears dripping out of my eyes. I finally begin to get it together and my husband looks over at me, sees me still having spasms of laughter and he busts out laughing, which got me started all over again. It was great.

One thing I've learned from my husband is don't try to know too much about a movie or anything that you are going to experience for the first time, because you might ruin it for yourself. I am glad I didn't try to see too much of the concert in pictures or "You Tube" entries, because the surprise factor would have taken a lot of the humor away.

The funniest part of that whole thing is how he COMPLETELY dead pans the entire song. I didn't see a twitch of a smile or anything, which makes the whole costume so much more funny.

Remember seeing him grinning behind the microphone as Reuben did his cone bra antics during LAS.

I always loved it when he comes out into the crowd, especially during One More Minute, but he didn't do any songs coming out into the crown this time at Kings Island. I was a little disappointed since this was the first concert I finally got a aisle seat.

Also, on the last tour in Evansville, IN I caught his cup that he through out into the crowd.

Everything he does is awesome though.

Can't resist posting on this thread! Two moments that come to mind after all these years -

In Houston about 3 years back when I was sitting on Steve's side (of course) near the front with a row of empty chairs to my right. Some long video was showing. I heard someone whisper to me "welcome to Houston" - and to my shock I realized that Steve had sat down next to me. During the video we talked and I introduced him to a pal to my left, and he headed back onstage just in time.

1994? The Cleveland OH concert on Jon's birthday when he did the drum solo. Al and the rest of the band walked offstage and stayed away for an extended length of time, leaving Jon to invent new ways to streeeettttttchh that drum solo. Al had confided to me before the show what was going to happen, and not to tell Jon, which I didn't. It worked extremely well, judging from the birthday boy's blushes.
