Even if Al's cds do better than Ben's in the long run, the good news is that Songs for Silverman made a nice debut. That's what counts, right? I say, good for Ben!

:D
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I didn't mean to make it seem like I was putting Al and Ben into competition; it would be silly when their music falls into different... genders... and I don't think they think in those terms either. I'm sure Al is thrilled for Ben's good opening.
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Rockin the Suburbs probably would have done a lot better if it hadn't been released on 9/11//01 -- talk about bad luck. Just about all of Ben's TV appearances to promote it were cancelled.

Ben's been around (approx) 10 years, worked hard and earned a lot of fans. I count myself among them. I'm thrilled the new one's done so well in its debut week. :Y

Al being on it is the icing on the cake.

TMBG's Mink Car was also released on 9/11, so that's two of Al's (and my) favorites. :(
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Spamalot has been nominated for 14 Tonys. Not a good 27, but a good 14.

Some funny news, and some sad news, and both concerning voice actors....

Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson as heard on both the show and Al's "Phony Calls," has been elected mayor of the Los Angeles neighborhood of Northridge. Oh well, at least she never appeared on-camera with a brawlin' chimp.

And sadly, voice actor Henry Corden died Thursday night of emphysema. Since 1977 Henry had taken over the role of Fred Flintstone after original actor Alan Reed had died (Henry was already performing Fred's voice for records and various other licensing endeavors since the series began in 1960). Henry continued to portray Fred's voice in almost every succeeding "Flintstones" production from Saturday morning cartoons to Pebbles cereal commercials, including Fred's guest appearance on the "Weird Al Show" episode "Talent Show." Away from the microphone, Henry was also a prolific character actor, appearing in such films as "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," "The Black Castle," "The Ten Commandments," and as the blowhard landlord Mr. Babbit on "The Monkees." Henry was 85.

Yabba dabba sigh. :(
