Re: 4/18/13 Nashville, TN Tennessee PAC
Kimo had a really fun show last night. It was at this little café in a quiet neighborhood in Nashville. Mom and I just went straight there when we got into town. When we arrived, Kimo was in the middle of a soundcheck song. Since it was early, we got some food from the café. Both of us had two pasta dishes, which were excellent. In awhile, a couple of my tourchasing friends arrived, and sat in the tables around Mom and I.
The Douglas Corner Café was a perfect place for Kimo to play. They had a nice stage area, which made the set seem even more intimate than the little café did, in itself. All seats had a great view of the stage, and unlike Seattle, everyone was there to see Kimo. So, there weren't any distractions during the set.
Kimo placed in a few special songs for people in the audience, that were based off of certain places in Hawaii. My favorite Kohala No, with Jim's special tuning, was performed just a few songs into the show. Al and Jon joined in for a couple of the songs in the first set. This was a blast. First, they performed a trio version of Buy Me A Condo. Al was on the accordion, and Jon on African Drum. Al took most of the vocals, with Jim joining in on the chorus. First time that I have seen the trio play together. Jon had played with Kimo in Napa, CA and Al had played with him at the show in Seattle, WA. This was a really neat treat, though. Then, the trio finished the set with Kimo's, Little Grass Shack.
Everyone enjoyed interaction and discussion during intermission, and then Kimo finished strong with another set and special encore song. The encore blended a lot of different elements together, and was really nice to hear.
Most enjoyable Kimo show I have seen, out of 5 shows.

Wow, I would love to see Jim, Jon and Al play like that... sounds amazing!! Nice intimate vibe. How many people do you think were in the audience (at the Kimo gig)? Just curious.

That sounds really cool. Thanks for sharing the details, Jeremy. So was it just a two song set for the trio, or did they play anything else?

Audience wasn't that large. All of Al's crew, Al and his manager, and Jon. There was a couple tables in the front, and one in the back, with Kimo's friends. Probably around 25. Then, there were three tables on the side with Mom and I, and two tourchasing friends of mine. One of the guys brought his girlfriend, and the other guy was there with someone he's shooting a movie with. They actually filmed some today at the theatre, which I'll have more details on later tonight. So, anyway, that was basically the crowd.
Yeah, they just did the two songs, Buy Me A Condo and Little Grass Shack together. It was really cool to get to see that. They seemed to really have a blast playing in a setting like that, too.

That was the worst crowd ever. They seemed to mostly be "casual fans" who knew the words to some songs, but yet stood for the entire encore.
Al's microphone stand collapsed at the start of Craigslist, and then he tripped over an amp on Steve's side. He's okay, but looked really steamed at both occurrences. One guy got busted for recording the Yoda Chant. No confetti for Yoda.
I had a plastic bag all prepared for it too.
All in all, it's another memorable night. Thanks Al, Jon, Jim, Ruben and Steve!
(P.S. - For those who care about this detail, Jeremy will have to tell you the coffee shop.)
