World of Weird Al Yankovic

Made the trek to the fair yesterday for the show. Two Al concerts at fairs in two days for me. Had the privelege of doing the Stormtrooper thing again at this one.

I thought the show was great last night.
The highlights for me were Al doing the "I forget the next verse" joke in Smells like Nirvana where he doesn't play the verse at all....that always cracks me up and I haven't seen it in forever.

I thought "Polkaface" sounded more energetic last night than it did the night before. I'm not sure what it was, but Tuesday night was my first time hearing it live...and last night I liked it even more.
CNR and Craiglist were both great (I listed to the latter from behind Bermuda's drum kit, which was awesome). Craigslist really does rock.

I need to learn that new Yoda chant, they've added like 3 or 4 verses to it this tour!

That was an awesome show. It was my first time seeing Al live and I loved it.

I know this is going to sound really random, but did you bring a kid to the show? For some reason the person I was sitting next to brought his kid to the show. At first I thought it was the kid that was the fan but I was shocked that the dad knew the lyrics to the songs.

Funny story, the people directly behind me were also new to seeing Weird Al Live and it was hilarious listening to them speculate about the show. For instance they were joking that it'd be funny if when Al came out on stage if it was someone other than Al. Like some fat guy with a beard and hat singing Al's songs etc. I literally started laughing because it was so funny to listen to--one of those moments when you had to be there. I also overheard them talking about what songs he'd play (they speculated that he'd play mostly new stuff since the majority of the crowd was young (90s material and forward). Of course 2 out of the first three songs were from 1988 The one song they didn't want to hear was SLN (Its Washington/Seattle so they're very protective of Nirvana ) I decided I should warn them so I turned around and was like "Well, be prepared, because he'll play it." I think the live performance of the song won them over though.

BTW, Jon, that bit about Al explaining the origins of Let Me Be Your Hog was a highlight of the show. He spent more time explaining it then the actually song is, and then his deadly serious "Okay...now this next song.........is about Canadians" The delivery on the entire thing was priceless!

Well, sort of, but not in great detail like you do

Video clips are less "family-friendly" than during previous tours.

Hmmm, really? Didn't really seem that bad. One comment on the videos this tour. By the end of the show I felt like Al was just trying to rub it in the audiences' (Is that the proper place for the apostrophe OE?) faces about how he's been mentioned in every show on earth. Half the clips of Al's name being dropped weren't even entertaining to watch, much less funny. Hopefully next tour Al will use less of those type of clips and more that show his humor/creativity (I'm looking at you Mr. 60% Chance of Rain video clip--you were solely missed.)

As I enjoy watching for people's reactions to certain things, I was able to catch a "That looks like it'll be good" for the trailer to Al's life. >_< I hope people don't actually think that's real.

Yeah I just watched a video of his performance from the night before and yeah it was lacking energy. I think Al's voice was a bit rusty from the day or two off he had before that show. So the next night his voice was warmed up from the night before and thus was more energetic. That made more sense in my head....you get what I'm trying to say though.

Finally, this setlist (with You Make Me and Good Ole Days) was probably my favorite setlist that I've seen live. As Jon said, there aren't really any dull periods in the setlist (minus the name dropping video clips). If Al had played Franks instead of Good Ole Days I would officially be in an AIH.

Driew, the apostrophe depends on whether you were talking about the audience of this show in Washington or all the audiences throughout this summer's tour.

I agree that too many video clips were just someone saying Al's name and no added humor at all. Not sure why those are in there at all, but I agree he should put more of his own stuff. I did not miss 60% Chance of Rain at all but I would have liked to see another scene or two from UHF maybe.

Really? When I saw the show in Puyallup a few years ago, they went NUTS for that song.

I've often wondered what it is like to be a Stormtrooper or Nirvana cheerleader in Al's shows. How much direction do they give you as far as specific dance moves, or do they just kind of tell you the types of things to do, and maybe more direction on the strong beats where all the Stormtroopers pose?

I don't even have a kid. I'm 17. Also, I had a great seat. 9 rows from the stage.
