While I disagree with your statement that "She Never Told Me" was one of Al's best songs, I do agree that it should have at least been tiled as such as not to give a way the joke immediately...for "Alapalooza", I would've gone with "Jurassic Park" just for the sheer production value alone...

Oh, yeah. The original pales in comparison to that song. I don't know Al seams to produce these parodies that have a better, cleaner sounding production value and overall performance than the original. You'll likely disagree, but when I listen to MacArthur Park, it's just, Richard Harris can not sing at all but at least the music is amazing. In the parody Al re-creates that amazing instrumental amazingly, but adds the vocal talent that that awesome score needs. Even with all that said, I think the originals on that album are better than all the parodies.

Here's my list, at least for today:

WAY: "I Love Rocky Road" -- May have been the first Al song I ever heard, as the music video was always on HBO as interstitial material when I was growing up. Loved it then, and have a special fondness for it now.

IN-3D: Tough call between "I Lost on Jeopardy" and "King of Suede". I love the resigned sadness in "Suede", but I'll go with "Jeopardy" because I think it's one of his most perfect parody concepts.

DARE TO BE STUPID: This one's easy. "One More Minute". 'Nuff said.

POLKA PARTY!: Gosh, so many great, underrated songs on this album. Believe it or not, I'm going to go with "Good Enough for Now", because it's such a simple yet clever song idea, wonderfully executed.

EVEN WORSE: Going with "(This Song's Just) Six Words Long" because it's jaw-droppingly brilliant.

UHF SOUNDTRACK: Another no-brainer for me. "The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota" is not only the best song on this album, it could possibly be my favorite Al song of all-time. Top 3, easy.

OFF THE DEEP END: Yeah, "Smells Like Nirvana" is the natural choice. So good.

ALAPALOOZA: 100% agree that the originals totally outshine the parodies on this one. Also agree that "She Never Told Me" is up there as one of the best ones. But I'm going to go with "Waffle King". Love the skewering of arrogant, egomaniacs who get a little taste of success and suddenly become insufferable jerks. Then again, I work in the entertainment industry, so I get to see some of that.

BAD HAIR DAY: Honestly, this is one of my least favorite albums. I might have gone with "Everything You Know Is Wrong", because it's a really great original TMBG style-parody, but I'm going to actually pick "The Alternative Polka". Gotta have some polka love, and this is one of his best ones.

RUNNING WITH SCISSORS: Oh wow. This one has to be a tie. "Horoscope for Today" and "All About the Pentiums" are two of my all-time favorite Al songs ever. I can't choose between the two. If you had a gun to my head, I'd probably go with "Horoscope" for the sole fact that "Pentiums" has unfortunately dated itself already.

POODLE HAT: This one is hard, too. Such a strong album. "Ebay" is a fine parody, and "Genius In France" is epic. But I'm going with "Wanna B Ur Lovr" just for the sheer hilarity of it. And it's funky.

STRAIGHT OUTTA LYNWOOD: I thought "Trapped In the Drive-Thru" was one of the funniest things I'd ever heard the first time I put it on. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold up too well on repeat listens. Some great style parodies on this one (Brian Wilson, Cake, Rage Against the Machine), but I'm going with "Confessions, Part III". Again, a great concept for the spoof, and it's funny throughout. "White & Nerdy" is good, but I deduct points because it's a full verse shorter than the original song. Same with "Do I Creep You Out". . .I hope this doesn't become a trend with Al. I like the parodies to be the same number of verses as the originals, otherwise I feel cheated. :-)

INTERNET LEAKS: Tough call between "Skipper Dan" and "Craigslist". "Craigslist" is such a spot-on style-parody, but in the end it's really the music--not the lyrics--that make this one shine as bright as it does. Lyrically, "Skipper Dan" is sublime, and I like that it's a fun, bouncy song wonderfully juxtaposed with the depressing story being told. Excellent stuff.

Skipper Dan has a subject matter that is realistic. Why Does This Always Happen to Me? is obviously over the top silly. I don't find Skipper Dan depressing but it when listen to it mopping at work I recall my non-used college degree :)
