Their reasons before aren't so valid now, so I see no reason why it would be a problem now if Al really wanted to actually album-ize it.

I'm with Stephen on this. The last time I've ever seen James Blunt on TV, that I can remember, is the 2006 VMA Awards. Looks like he's one of those artists that has a hit and then fades away.

I would hope it's closer to 35-40 songs; if the discs only have 13 or 14 songs each then it's a waste.

I'm not on Twitter, anyone wanna share my list with the Weird One? I'll limit it to released stuff but obviously stuff like "Pacman" would be more than welcome.

DISC 1
1. My Bologna (single version)
2. School Cafeteria (this song needs to make its CD debut, and not via Demento Society)
3. Another One Rides the Bus
4. Ricky
5. I Love Rocky Road
6. Eat It
7. I Lost on Jeopardy
8. Polkas on 45
9. This is the Life
10. Dare to Be Stupid
11. Like a Surgeon
12. One More Minute
13. Yoda
14. Living with a Hernia
15. Christmas at Ground Zero
16. Addicted to Spuds
17. Fat
18. Lasagna

DISC 2
1. UHF
2. Money for Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies*
3. You Don't Love Me Anymore
4. Smells Like Nirvana
5. Jurassic Park
6. Bedrock Anthem
7. Headline News
8. Amish Paradise
9. Gump
10. The Night Santa Went Crazy (Extra Gory Version)
11. The Saga Begins
12. Pretty Fly for a Rabbi
13. It's All About the Pentiums
14. Couch Potato
15. eBay
16. You're Pitiful
17. White and Nerdy
18. Canadian Idiot

I initially had a list of 46, from which I cut the following 10: "Midnight Star," "Dog Eat Dog," "Good Old Days," "Frank's 2000" TV," "Achy Breaky Song," "Since You've Been Gone," "Hardware Store," "A Complicated Song," "Don't Download This Song" and regrettably the Placebo EP version of "Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung." I know this and "School Cafeteria" were probably odd choices, but it would be nice to see them make their CD debuts.

I also made a last-minute switch from "Polka Your Eyes Out" to "Polkas on 45." Hopefully there wouldn't be an issue with "You're Pitiful" still now that James Blunt is already a has-been. "A Complicated Song" would be the best replacement since we're not delving into album #13 territory.

Final count: 1 polka medley; 7 originals; 30 parodies.

ETA: If they do a 3.0 edition with a third disc, I'd go with:
1. Mr. Frump in the Iron Lung (Placebo EP version--the 3.0 discs generally contain a rarity)
2. Midnight Star
3. I Want a New Duck (I know it wasn't on my original list, but let's face it, this compilation is geared towards people who want Al's parodies)
4. Polka Your Eyes Out
5. Achy Breaky Song
6. A Complicated Song
7. Don't Download This Song

I don't know... I'd like to see more than just seven originals on here, even though Al is better known for his parodies.

Wow. It's like Al is reading my mind. I was actually thinking about this exact idea yesterday!

For those who don't know, this is most likely talking about Sony's "Essential" series of album compilations that are often quite but usually have lots of material in them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Essential

A similar series of albums is the Gold series done by Universal music. I was thinking about if Al had a new Greatest Hits Compilation come out, it would most likely be one of these as opposed to "Greatest Hits Vol 3". And because is on Volcano which in the long run is owned by Sony, The Essential series made the most sense.

And these things are often quite packed with music. If they are going the 2 Disc route, which I'm most certain they will, it'll probably have anywhere between 27-40 songs.

It was definitely tough cutting out all those originals...but ultimately when I went down the list, I think all of the parodies that made the final cut are ones that absolutely have to be included. I suppose "Canadian Idiot" and "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi" could be left out, but I really couldn't justify dropping any of the others, even for classics like "Dog Eat Dog" and "Good Old Days." :(

The only reason I left this one out was because it was getting towards the end of the list and I knew I had too many. But "Pancreas" might be preferable to "Don't Download This Song" on the 3.0 disc.

BTW, I'm gonna start a related poll in P&G in a second...

My own personal want list is MOSTLY originals. I know that's not gonna happen, but all or nearly all of these have fan made videos up on YouTube. People don't do that for songs they don't care about.

Ah well, I can always gather up my CDs and burn my own "essentials" discs.

Which would consist of:
1 Another One Rides The Bus
2 Eat It
3 Like A Surgeon
4 Dare To Be Stupid
5 One More Minute
6 Dog Eat Dog
7 Fat
8 Melanie
9 Fun Zone
10 Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
11 Smells Like Nirvana
12 You Don't Love Me Anymore
13 Frank's 2000" TV
14 Amish Paradise
15 Everything You Know Is Wrong
16 Since You've Been Gone
17 The Night Santa Went Crazy
18 The Saga Begins
19 Your Horoscope For Today
20 Albuquerque
21 Hardware Store
22 Wanna B Ur Lovr
23 Why Does This Always Happen to Me?
24 eBay
24 White and Nerdy
26 Pancreas
27 Weasel Stomping Day
"Weird Al" has a charisma that's all his own. The awkward, the misshapen, the socially inept flock to his banner.

Quick question for the mods: If information about this CD leaks early (the track list, special features, etc.) should we post it here, or in the spoiler forum?
