Tenacious D is pretty cool, they are definitely rated R type stuff. Al is a totally different style of comedy.

The excessive bad language in some of T. D.'s other songs gets a little tiresome after a while. It's a turn-off, and it's one of the main reasons I don't own any TD CDs.
Seconded.
I can't understand why the reviewer would think Poodle Hat would be a fair comparison to the success W&N has achieved.

Kill me if you will, but I'm going to say it. Jack Black is da man. I love his performance in almost every movie he's been in, even if the movie was below average.
I have no problem with his use of profanity. Frank Zappa swore in his music and like him or not, Frank Zappa was a great man.
But that article was ridiculous. Jack Black is an actor. He hasn't been at this as long as Al has and he just isn't as good. His movie, which I haven't seen yet, is probably incomparable to UHF for the simple reason that UHF wasn't a music movie. It was a movie about TV.
Black's music is both insightful and hilarious at times. But as the consensus seems to be on QuestionSwap, Weird Al is a musical genius and icon in a way that it's going to take a little while longer for Jack Black to be.
Why should this thread be a flamewar? And why should that article purposely diss Al as not being a genius and/or legend just to say that Jack Black is?

Well I don't mind the D's swearing, although I can understand people finding it tiresome. That's how I see every rap music lyric out there...
And I think he was just using PH--the last record Al had, which has been somewhat forgotton--to note how people forget certain records when there's a rather large break between releases.

Al probably is a fan of Tenacious D. He showed up at the School of Rock premiere... he's probably something of a pal of Jack Black. We don't need any flames over this... quality will win out.
Slightly off-topic: I haven't seen Nacho Libre, so I gotta ask: does it come out anywhere in the movie that "Nacho Libre" is a Spanish wrestling pun? I.e., that "lucha libre" is the Spanish term for wrestling?

I like all types of comedy music.
Therefore, I'm a fan of Weird Al and a fan of Tenacious D. You can't compare them cause they're two totally different styles of comedy.
By the way, "Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny" rocks.
Oh yeah, and Al DID say he's a Tenacious D fan.

I didn't even stick around that long with the movie. But since I called it "Natcho Grande" to begin with, I don't think I'm a good person to pass on reliable information. :^)

To be fair though, The Pick Of Destiny (movie) is turning out to be as big of a box office flop as UHF, if not bigger.
Plus there's the fact that UHF wasn't in production for at least 6 bleedin' years!
That article was clearly written by a huge fan of Tenacious D and shouldn't really be viewed as valid musical criticism.

Yes. It's a pun. The main character's name is Ignacio, hence "Nacho".

I agree with those who said that it is unfair to compare Al and Tenacious D. They really are two very different styles of comedy. They are both excellent at what they do, but you can't really compare them. I did notice that the author said that unlike Al, Tenacious D pokes fun at pop culture. Al pokes fun at pop culture all the time, especially in his originals. I didn't have any major issues with this article, but that comparison was weak.
