Jeremy, you're seriously the best teacher ever. I wish my teachers would have used Al in their lessons.
Oh by the way, I've cracked the code.

Anne is doing her student teaching now, and I've been trying to plot ways for her to work Al into her lessons. It's an ESL class, so my feeling is that anything that has a narrative to follow could be used as a listening exercise. :F

You could use "Everything You Know is wrong" to teach your students about ambiguity. The following statement can mean several different things. (Heck, I learned about ambiguity from this one, and I'm WAY past school age!) :S

"I was driving down the freeway in the fast lane with a rabid wolverine in my underwear".

It could mean that:

a. Al had a rabid wolverine actually inside his underwear while he was driving.

*The image that statement first conjured up in my brain*

b. Al was driving, and the rabid wolverine was wearing his underwear.

c. Al was driving while wearing his underwear, and a rabid wolverine was in the car with him.

Thanks for the lesson, Al!

P.S. What lyrics do you consider naughty in CNBC? Or were you talking about the video? Because I agree with you there.
4 words that Al said to me that blew me away:

"How's Problem Child doing?" - 7/12/11

So awesome!

I never noticed the ambiguity in EYKIW until now, although I seem to remember being initially confused by that statement! That definitely has the makes of a good lesson! :Y Thanks for pointing that out!

Jeremy, I don't think Al himself would ever expect people would use his songs as educational tools, and you've created some really interesting lessons...I second Kev's request, I wouldn't mind you replacing one of my past teachers... :P I don't think enough teachers in this world realize that presenting material in an interesting way kids can relate to is the most effective method out there. If they're interested, they'll listen. If they listen and understand, they'll learn.

If only some of my college professors gave a *bleep* about that... <_<

Wow, Jeremy, that's awesome using Al in your lessons like that. I wish my teachers did that.

Too bad I'm in college now.

I did get to play Al a lot in my Earth Science class in high school, simply because my teacher loved Al and I was his best student, so I got special privledges. |)

I did use a bad Al interview as an example in my Media Writing class to show how not to do an interview since our instructor had given us a bunch of good examples, so I brought in a bad one. But that wasn't an Al song...
