I missed this interview because my stupid alarm clock decided not to work. :( Oh well. Thanks for the summary, Greg.

Well, if it's any consolation, be sure to check out the "Arts and Life" section from today's "Plain Dealer."

Okay, everyone sort of has a second chance.

My girlfriend Rebecca just called to tell me that Mix 106.5 said Al will be on tomorrow (Wednesday) morning during Brian and Joe's show. I have no idea what time he will be on, and the station web site is about as helpful as a Best Buy employee.

And this time, Mix 106 does stream online! For everyone else not in the area, the show airs from 5AM to 10AM EST.

Well, the quick recap for all interested parties...

In the hour they had Al on, there was about 10 minutes of interview total (not that I expected much more) but obviously news, commercials, weather, and music (some of which wasn't even Al's) superceedes their musical guest...

It was an extremely typical interview, very rushed when it went on at all...nice plug for SOL (and the DualDisc format, hopefully discouraging downloads and encouraging REAL record sales for Al!), plugged the Tonight Show briefly, played parts of W&N, all of Eat It ("a classic"), and YP twice, surprisingly enough. Not only did Al briefly reiterate the story of the evil suits at Atlantic, he also mentioned he was in pre-production for the YP VIDEO when all this Atlantic bruhaha went down(:oo)...I also find it funny that when Al was discussing videos, he once again explained what the show Robot Chicken was and what station it airs on, etc...he should be getting royalties for all the free plugs the show itself is getting from Al for having to explain things to clueless "behind the times" kinda Deejays...

They didn't take any calls or anything of the sort, which was disappointing since all of their questions were very run-of-the-mill, "we're-simply-saying-this-to-help-promote-SOL." Their most interesting question was what was hottest at the Merch booth, and Al said the W&N hoodies were literally "flying off the shelves," so I guess they're selling well. He explained that they only sold the hoodies because the fans demanded them on his Myspace...

For the most part, you could tell the DJs were fans (but they were surprised to know that the Box Set was out of print, one of them had JUST picked it up a while back), but not exactly the most interesting DJs to listen to in the world...they did mention the tour (Summer 2007, zZzZ, we know), and that was pretty much it.

Oh, except for the part where they wanted to demonstrate Al's vocal capabilities, by playing "Hardware Song" from "his latest."

Some guys really need to get with the program.

Always nice to hear Al's voice in the morning, though, and the DJs were very polite and welcoming. I wouldn't trade this show for my 3 lost hours of sleep if you paid me.

:inlove:

Thanks for the recap, Cat!

In preproduction for YP, eh? I think W&N has turned out to be working much better for Al, but I did recently watch the "You're Beautiful" video and thought it was absolutely standing on its hind legs and pleading to be parodied. I laughed just thinking about what kinds of things Al would pull out of his pockets before making The Dive.

This morning, as I was listening to my ever needed traffic reports, on my way to school, Al was on WDOK promoting his new CD at about 7:40 am. Unfortunately, I had to attend a meeting at about that time, although I missed a bit of the meeting because I just had to hear his voice. What a great way to start off the morning!
The stations' blog about the show said that Al felt like he was an "honorary Clevelander". How cool is that!!!
