There's another cool update on weirdal.com today.

Some precious pics of poodles and parakeets (okay, cockatiel) and some fine artwork from our very own resident artist! Congrats!

Whenever there is alert to a wa.com update, and you don't see it when you go there, press F5.

This new thing is on the splash page, so rather than using a bookmark just type www.weirdal.com into your browser and it should appear.

It's a real great way to start the day (even if it is Iraq War Eve).

Yes. I wasn't around for it, but the cover for RWS did appear on the splash page of weirdal.com in the weeks prior to release.
Well, technically the RWS cover wasn't originally featured on the splash page as a whole. Over the course of a couple of weeks a tight close-up was pulled back more and more before revealing the full image. Hmm.....
I'm pretty sure weirdal.com was launched as the official website Oct 23, 1998.

Close, it was that day in 1997.

And I hope any future teasers aren't flash... ugh. :eh: At least not without a way to "skip" it, or I might have to go back to linking to home.htm.

That's only a 20k file - modest even by my dial-up-based standards! In this instance, a "skip intro" link keeps you from seeing the info at all, it's deliberately not mentioned in the main part of the site yet.

Any future Flash would be kept modestly sized. In this case, Al wanted to have the date appear after the photo did, and this was the only way to do it and keep the filesize so small. An 89a .gif would have been huge, and a Javascript text fade-in would have added more text/bytes to the document than doing it as a Flash animation. Flash does have tremendous potential, but most people are overusing it right now and for the wrong reasons. There's some powerful scripting available aside from all the graphic exploitation that seems to be the trend.

BTW Ratbert, that photo wasn't crunched, that's just the texture.

More to come... you guys should know by now not to judge anything on the first impression!
