Is it any wonder Al felt capable enough to take over the production duties? Maybe that's why it's mispelled. Either that, or some low level, semi literate flunkie did the web page.
It's very possible that somebody else did the actual typing for Mr. Derringer's web page, and I'm not prepared to charge anybody with illiteracy on the grounds of not knowing how to spell "Yankovic" (cultural illiteracy is a different matter!) but my orthographically enthusiastic heart finds "wierd" much harder to defend.

He became Francine back in 76' and then he joined that cult. I think his name is Mother Shibubu now.

I'm usually tolerant to those who use the "-ch" or "-ck" endings...but maybe it's just me, but never in my wildest delusions could I think that "Yankovic" has a second "c." Doesn't the hard "K" sound in "Yank" give it away?Sigh. I discovered that Rick Derringer's website had "Wierd Al Yancovic." C'mon, Mr. Derringer, just copy the correct spelling off those gold records on your wall.
Granted there are people with last names spelled like that...but they're all jerks.
The one misspelling I always find funny is "Jankovic," and that one pops up quite often. I think it was even used on a various artists compilation album ("Death, Glory..." maybe?).
I know....even the nay-sayers that may not like Al's stuff would know that he wouldn't stoop to that level. It would be like expecting smut from Bill Cosby or Jerry Seinfeld. Some comic minds don't need the "help."I was surfing the other day and saw some not-by-Al songs. I didn't even have to hear them to know.....(Al would never write a song called My Big Balls. He is WAY too much of a class act for that. Smut humor is only for those not smart enough to come up with something that is actually funny. Our boy is smart enough to be funny without being vulgar. Not that he's above 'juvenile' humor -Gotta Boogie- but hey, I like that song, so you know what that says about me. eheheheh.)
(Of course, that's not to say that I don't find someone like George Carlin or Richard Pryor funny....I just know going in what to expect.)

For most of the stuff I can see the confusion....it's a parody song, so it's gotta be Weird Al. That's a great reputation to have, to a point. But something like, using your example, "My Big Balls." Weird Al is the first person they can think of as who might be the singer??
There seems to be a little swing now that the filthier "unknown" songs are being attributed to Adam Sandler. Fine. Let him have that reputation....it's something unfunny, so it's gotta be Sandler.
Yeah. But what do you know about Al's songs. Not like you wrote a Songography or anything. At this point I simply said, "Think about who is telling you this."
That seemed to be enough to convince her.
I know.....and man, keeping track of them all is tough. Maybe I should go back to work on the one I started before getting hooked on Al. Anyone want to subscribe to The Marcel Marceau Songography?

You know how they say you have to know how to do something really well before you can break the rules? I think these guys fall into that category. They both *choose* to use language and subject matter because of what they are trying to say. These guys can both be screamingly funny without even saying a word. Unlike some comics who only get by because they are "hard core". BlechI know....even the nay-sayers that may not like Al's stuff would know that he wouldn't stoop to that level. LOL. <Scottidog is happy that no one had to explain the joke to her.>
RE: the pronounciation of Yankovic. Al says his grandparents (or great grandparents?) pronounced it Yawn-kovich. So how did it come to be YANK-ovic? As far as I know, I pronounce my family name the same way my g-parents and gg-parents did.
What? Did Nick wake up one day and decide he was gonna change it?

My guess would be either:
1) Somebody in the family just got tired of giving Yugoslavian pronunciation lessons.
2) Somebody in the family realized that a name that sounded like "Yawn" would be profoundly inappropriate for their most illustrious future descendant.

Then again, it would be easy to headline a bad review.
"Weird Al" Yawn-kovich is at it again....

Update: I received an e-mail from Rick Derringer's webmaster saying:Sigh. I discovered that Rick Derringer's website had "Wierd Al Yancovic." C'mon, Mr. Derringer, just copy the correct spelling off those gold records on your wall.
The actual e-mail I sent was much politer. I've got to do something to justify calling myself an Orthography Enthusiast, after all.
I appreciate the feedback. No need to be sorry.
I'll be sure and let y'all know when he actually fixes the goof. But at least he was nice about it.

That reminds me...
Even while reading Star Trek fanfics and stuff, they're do songfics about rather inappropiate subjects...
These songs were inappropiate too...
Every songfic on their site was said to be by Al but wasn't, so I emailed them a different email for each fic, telling them it wasn't by Al and giving them several links to places they could check.
Though, finally, a month later they changed it to "unknown". Good.
