You're right. But "lap dance" and "gentlemen's club" dancers translate into skanky in my world. Which is perhaps why Ratbert and I both thought it was kinda uncalled for.

At Fresno during TWS, a cheerleader didn't show up, and "Weird Stephanie" (of Donnie & Marie show fame) happened to be standing around when someone mentioned it. They said if she could fit into the costume and learn the moves in a short time, she had the gig. She did, and she did.

The one girl in Kazoo, poor thing, looked like she was scared stiff. She didn't do too well, and neither of them looked like, "dancers"
or plastic
or any of the type
TWS, i think they resorted to cheerleaders possibly from local HS. Dunno if thats different from this tour or not. I dunno why they'd change. I dunno where the whole gentlemans club thing came from..

If the promoter of the local venue has to provide the cheerleaders, I guess they could come from ANYWHERE.
The Nirvana cheerleaders I feel sorry for are the ones at Konocti.

That poor girl looked like she was going to faint at any moment..... I felt bad for her
. I am sure it didn't help that the place was poorly air conditioned yikes, it was hot....

The ones at Toledo looked very underage and not at all what you would expect from a cheerleader. Have a feeling they were someone-in-power's daughters

Was there something about that particular show that makes you say that? Because the girls at the SLO show, while not the greatest of dancers didn't appear to be skanky at all to me. They did a pretty good job and seemed classy enough to share the stage with our boy.
I went to a show in Peoria, Il during TWS, and the cheerleaders moved like strippers, it was a rather interesting performance. The venue was just down the block from a Strip Club

Technically the dancers are supposed to be at least 18 years old. However, this is something in the contract that the local venues always seem to oversight, and they often resort to just asking anyone hanging around if they want to perform. One of the times I saw WAY in Westbury, a local crew guy walked up to the line and asked if anyone wanted to dance. Two girls volunteered, and they asked if they were 18, and they said no, and he said "well if anyone asks, you're 18."

Does Al tour with a choreographer who teaches these girls how to do the moves at each show?

You know what? This sounds like a great question for You Know Who. I did a quick search at Ask Al:
That's usually the responsibility of the concert promoter - when anybody books our show, among other things we ask them to supply us with two young, attractive female dancers to use as cheerleaders (ah, the perks of fame!) Sometimes the promoter will get them through a radio promotion, or maybe it'll be the promoter's cousins, or maybe it's someone the promoter met at a club the night before - we never know. All I can say is, if you want to be a cheerleader in our show, your best bet would be to find out who's promoting it and then dazzle 'em with your pom poms.
Which doesn't shed much more light than we already had on *how* the girls are chosen. And none at all on how they're taught the routine....
