There is now a message on the Vina Robles Amphitheatre website. They make it sound like it was "Weird Al" Yankovich's decision that the "Weird Al" Yankovic show was cancelled.
"Due to routing difficulties in the time period immediately preceding our date Weird Al Yankovich at Vina Robles Amphitheater on July 12th, has been cancelled. Refunds available at place of purchase."

I suppose it's possible that Al's tour booking agency decided it wasn't cost-effective, but clearly the decision wasn't made by Al. Those kinds of decisions aren't made by the artists.

Exactly. Totally didn't like the vibe that the statement set, on that it was Al's fault with the routing difficulties reason. Also, didn't like that for an artist you've had booked for months, that you can't even spell his name correctly.

Whilst speculation is unhelpful we just need to remember that whilst the Mothership took ELEVEN days to delete the details of the already very publicly cancelled Monterey shows, they actually led with notifying the cancellation of this one.
I'd say the decision not to go ahead may very well have lain with Al's/his peeps, and we all know he never does anything like that lightly.
Whatever is amiss, I'm 100% sure Al wouldn't take such a step capriciously, particularly in light of the cancellation of the Monterey shows.
Whatever the truth of it though "routing difficulties" is plainly a BS reason given the timings and distances involved

The venue's reason was definitely BS.
