Running with Scissors and Poodle Hat as album titles?

Post by mrbellamy »

Did Al ever give any interviews talking about how he settled on these as album titles? Or maybe Bermuda has some insight?

Was just thinking about how he is probably done with albums and pretty much all the other titles have pretty obvious jokes or meaning behind them, but these two really stick out to me as quite random. Weird, even! :P

I had similar questions about how he settled on Alpocalypse and Mandatory Fun, but those at least I could find interviews saying that he had a notebook of funny album titles. As well as Alpocalypse coming out in 2011 with a lot of end-of-world chatter happening around then with 2012 doomsday predictions.

So unless there's some other cultural context I'm missing, then perhaps in lieu of anything relevant, RWS and PH just stuck out to him from his notebook as the funniest? Also I guess he did have a poodle back then and there is a poodle reference in "Genius in France." Maybe poodles were just on his brain, so you could say he had a poodle hat lol.

The only others that I was pondering was how he actually happened to settle on "In 3-D," which did always make sense to me with "Nature Trail to Hell" being the closer...I assume the title came after this song had been written and the track order had been decided, but maybe not?

And Alapalooza, I know that's a play on Lollapalooza which had been recently established at the time. It is kind of an incongruous match with the Jurassic Park logo parody but there is probably nothing else to it other than they just look funny together!

Running with Scissors was released after his TV show on CBS where the censors were constantly telling him he couldn't do things for fear of kids copying him and end up hurting themselves. "I figured that was the mist dangerous thing I could do"
Poodle Hat came about when he sat up in bed one morning and put the family poodle, Bella, on his head, turned to Suzanne and said ," look, honey. Poodle hat!"and then, I assume,at to east, the name stuck.
