Udvarnoky wrote:Wow, checking out that HITS Daily Double link...I had no idea that Alpocalypse sold fewer than 150k records. That would represent an insane drop from Straight Outta Lynwood (Gold certified) that seems hard to account for. Does anyone know what the total sales were for Al's few other non-Gold records (Polka Party!, UHF and Poodle Hat)?

I'm finding it hard to trust that number...it would make Al's last album his lowest selling by far, and that just doesn't really make any sense to me.
Hits Daily Double is a good guide to go by, but it isn't Billboard. I don't know if they don't count certain retailers, or if they get wrong info, but It's a safe bet their sales numbers are off by a good margin. When they say 150K, it's probably more around 175, maybe 200.

That's still a drop off, but to be fair to Al, that's more reflective of the whole market rather than him. It was actually a shock to see SOL go gold in this day and age, regardless of how big W&N was. Unless you're one of the big, huge acts of the day, you aren't selling much.

Things like Adele (Who already had a good sized following before her breakthrough album came out anyway) or the Frozen soundtrack are more exceptions to the rule these days. Other than that, unless you're one of the big huge acts of the day, you won't be selling like you used to.
You have quickly thought up such matchless phrase?

Yeah, the album is #2 on iTunes and #1 on Amazon.

On the iTunes singles chart, "Tacky" is number 154, and "Word Crimes is number 161. I dunno if this is enough to kick him into the Hot 100 (probably not), but I have a feeling he might chart both of those songs on the Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart, which is still cool.

On the Amazon singles chart, "Tacky" is number 155, and "Word Crimes" is number 218. However, both of them hold the top two spots in the singles chart. :P

Oh dang! I don't know much about how YouTube plays chart into the Billboard Hot 100, but if it keeps up that pace... well it just might chart!

Compared to 122,000 for Tacky...who knows how many views it got from Nerdist, but I think that it not being on YouTube for so long hurt it.
