Re: Album 14 Speculation :3
I totally agree w/Jon on the whole method of naming parodies thing. I like to be completely in the know and pretty much have the originals memorized by the time I hear Al's parody much like mrmeadows does. In fact, I even looked "Break Your Heart" and "Need You Now" when the songs for "Polka Face" were first announced by Jeremy (I believe) during the 2010 tour. It might even be a given that we'll know what the parodies are before we hear the full released albums considering that sites like Amazon UK were always the first to have up preview audio from each Alpocalypse song days before they were released and the iTunes tracklisting always indicates parodies as soon as you can pre-order from there.
As far as tracklists go, I distinctly remember how the one for Alpocalypse was first revealed. It was on the mothership's pre-order page for the album in the Merch section and I remember I found it on 4/28/2011 (a full week after the title and release date were first announced on YouTube) and I posted it on this board. At that point, two parody titles were still total mysteries. So, I would expect the tracklist for this next album might be revealed in a similar fashion. The tracklist should probably be revealed very soon after the album release date is announced.
For SOL, I can't say I remember how that tracklist was revealed because I didn't start getting into Al's music until well after that album was released and W&N and "Drive-Thru" were already established hits for Al. Looking back on some very old threads form this boards, it seemed like the remaining parody targets (Usher, R. Kelly, Green Day, Taylor Hicks) were announced first well after W&N was announced as the lead single and the actual tracklist came much later. I've read threads here where people speculated that "Yeah!" and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" were going to be parodied so I imagin looking at that tracklist, it wouldn't have been hard to put two and two together afterward. All the SOL titles were pretty close to the originals.
Even if the title of the lead single isn't that close to the original, we'll probably find out what it is before we even hear it because it's the lead single which means it will probably get most of the press focus and have whole articles on music blogs and entertainment sites written about it. Hell, Al may even reveal it himself seeing as that's what he did with W&N, WYL and PTW.

Re: Album 14 Speculation :3
Yeah with Straight Outta Lynwood, there was an initial announcement that Al was parodying Ridin', which I believe came via Chamillionaire's Myspace or something like that, and then an announcement of the artists being parodied. And then our first knowledge of the actual tracklist came via the MySpace page of someone who had gotten an advanced copy.

Re: Album 14 Speculation :3
I agree wholeheartedly. It's not a spoiler at all to find out what songs are being parodied. You still know virtually nothing about the content of the parody, and if anything, I think it builds anticipation for the album's release. Also, I definitely agree that it's better to know what songs are being parodied in advance so you can familiarize yourself with the original before you hear the parody.TMBJon wrote:So you guys would rather have the titles of the songs be some awkward clunky name like Ode To A Superhero just so you don't know what song is being parodied until the exact moment the song is played for the first time? I don't get it. What about the hundreds or thousands of times you hear it after that? The Poodle Hat method is absurd. I don't consider it a spoiler to find out what songs are being parodied ahead of listening to the album for the first time. I wouldn't want to read lyrics or anything, but knowing what the song is a parody of? I would rather know what I'm getting into in advance, so I can make sure I am totally familiar with the original songs before hearing Al's versions.

Re: Album 14 Speculation :3
People have many varied opinions on what a spoiler is. Titles, subject, song being parodied, length of the song, amount of words. It really all boils down to personal preference. There were people on here who refused to listen to the internet leaks because they were spoilers.

I'm sure even when the titles are released there will still be confusion regarding the songs. Like whether or not Al is parodying Let It Go or Let Her Go.

Re: Album 14 Timeline/Spoiler Updates
I've been thinking of potential targets for the next lead single. I don't think Happy or Get Lucky are the best candidates. I detest the original lyrics in Blurred Lines
but the music is catchy. Al could take that to a whole new level, or at the very least could nail the coffin shut on that...thing. Also, right now the hotter artists are Maclemore & Ryan Lewis as well as Lorde.
