100 times over!! (that probably doesn't mean what I thought it meant now that I think about it whoops)

I really have a feeling that Lorde/Royals might possibly be parodied. Probably not the lead parody but at least one of the other ones. I mean, Lorde is new and you can't really even go anywhere without hearing Royals and she got grammys for it and she's like 17 or something so she's kind of a big deal at the moment. Now Royals is in my head. So there you go, it's catchy. And dat hair!

My stance still stands. :ttr:

And think how easy it would be to replicate the music!

I recall hearing a few months ago that Al was back in the studio. This was back when we already knew that six original songs were finished. If previous albums' recording patterns hold up, we might speculate that right now there are already a couple of parodies already finished from that recording session. Therefore, this week, Al may be working on a couple more parodies, and potentially within the next couple of weeks Al will be one lead single (or possibly also one other parody or polka) short of a complete album.

This would go along with Al's tweet crossing his fingers for a release sometime this year. In other words, he is just waiting on that big idea for a lead single to strike. If so, he will probably not go with a lead single based on a current hit, but rather the first big breakthrough hit of 2014. A year ago now, Thrift Shop was dominating the radio so I would keep a close eye out for whatever this year's version of Macklemore is.

As far as what Al might be parodying right now, I would look at the Grammy performances and winners. I remember a few months ago speculating about Get Lucky and Blurred Lines. I'd definitely now add Royals into the mix.

Personally I'd love a parody of Lorde. I'd assume he'd choose "Royals" although "Team" is a good song as well.

Would a Lorde song be a strong lead parody? Possibly not, unless there's a stronger song out nowadays.

The strength of a lead parody don't depend as much on the song itself as the concept Al attaches to it.

I agree. I think if Al can come up with a concept for a parody of "Royals" that's solid (and would make for a good live-action video), then I could see that song holding the lead spot.

I hope he doesn't call it "Boil" because I'm working on a Boil song.

And I just lanced a boil
It was full of pus and blood

The timing doesn't really make sense for Royals to carry the lead single.
We know for a fact that he is working on songs now, and he said he is crossing his fingers for a release in 2014. If he was working on the lead single now, he would know for sure the album will come out this year.

Like I said above, I would look ahead to the next big wave of hits as potential lead single material. Maybe one of this year's early summer jams...

Actually, I kinda see your point there. Royals wouldn't feel too fresh for a lead single that many months from now. Including it on this album would feel too much like when he made Lose Yourself/Couch Potato the lead single on Poodle Hat.

Still at this point, it could just be a supporting parody. For all we know, Al and Jay could be trying to get in touch with Lorde's representation at the moment. There may still be time for Al to write it if he wanted to (if it's not among the new parodies he's already written). It's actually kind of hard to imagine him singing it as a parody now that I think about it, but it would probably be better used in the polka.

At this point, I'm sure the lead single will be a parody of a song that hasn't even come out yet.
